BEST FOOT FORWARD

It gives us great pleasure to share with you the extraordinary success of our boys and girls in the sporting arena over the year, not only at the school stage but nationally too. 2013-14 was a year of record participation at different levels for all campuses. A true testament to the talent, passion, commitment and hard work not only of the students but of the School PE teachers and coaches who work tirelessly in the background. There is a real sense of excitement at the moment around sports at GIIS and I hope this shines through the next session.

Bangalore

The grand inauguration of the CBGCA flagged off the sporting culture. Mr. Anil Kumble@aps@s presence was like an icing on the cake for an exciting cricket match between parents & children. The Bangalore campus proudly also claims the successful launch of Vishy Anand Mind Champs Academy for chess, a kiddy pool & specialized Kindergarten play area, Skating rink & martial arts zone.

The Annual Sports day on 30th November 2013 was a culmination of all the Inter-house team events and individual track & field events.

Football: Inter house football match was conducted for boys and girls in August 2013.

Table Tennis

Table Tennis (Grade I-V Boys & Girls) scheduled for 23rd August is postponed to September 2013. (17th Sep,2013)

Orchid Vs Sunflower;

  • 5 overs match where in Satvik (Captain of Orchid) won the toss and chose to bat first.
  • Orchid scored 11 runs in 5 overs
  • Chandu (Captain of Orchid) lead from the front to chase the target of 12 runs in 3 overs.
  • Finally Orchids won by 3 wickets.

Hibiscus Vs Chrysanthemum;

  • Allen won the toss and chose to bat.
  • Chrysanthemum scored 20 runs for 5 overs.
  • Hibiscus team couldn@aps@t start their innings as it started raining heavily, so we have postponed their innings for the coming Friday next week.

27th Sept@aps@13

  • Hibiscus had a target of 21 to chase in 5 overs. Rishab (Hibiscus Captain) finished of the innings by chasing the target with in 3 overs without losing a wicket.

11th Oct@aps@13

  • The toss was won by Chandu (Captain of Sunflower House) and elected to bat first on a pitch which was uneven but he was brave enough to take that decision because he relied on his batsmen who could play on any surface. That was a good sign from the captain.
  • Finally Sunflower team ended with a huge total of 45 in 5overs
  • It was a close match, Harshit scored a boundary and there were a few over throws where the Hibiscus team took advantage of that by running almost 3 to 4 runs. Finally they needed 1 run from 6 balls and Allen finished it in style by placing the ball towards point and finishing the winning run.

Best Foot ForwardThe formal tie-up with Multi Form Sports sparked off a grand year for Sports in Surat. Children look forward to Saturday sports with anticipation as coaches from different field of sport are available in school. The try outs, the hard work, dedication paid off and Surat students brought many laurels to their school this year.

Inter-school district level Chess tournament: 6 students participated in Under 14 category. Harsh Ahir from STD 6th crossed all the 5 levels and got selected for school State level.

Inter-zone school level Volleyball tournament: 2 students Omveer Lamor(captain) and Bhavik Vansia were selected to play for school district level volleyball tournament which is going to be held on 30th August, 2013 at Motagam Bardoli, Surat.

Inter-zone school level Kabaddi tournament: 2 students Roshan Singh (Captain) and Suyash Tiwari were selected to play for school district level Kabaddi tournament which is going to be held on 21th August, 2013 at Vashisth Vidyalaya, Kamrej, Surat.

3rd Surat District Shotokan Karate Championship- 2013: 13 students from class IV - VII participated. Sandip Rajput from 4th Std stood 2nd and received Silver Medal. Uttam Rajpurohit from 5th Std and Abhishek Singh from 6th Std stood 3rd and both of them received Bronze Medal. All are selected for the State level. Interschool District level Archery Tournament: Two students Laxita Jhawar and Tulsi Patel are selected to play at State level.

The Annual Sports day was celebrated on 30th November 2013.

NOIDA

The first rooftop swimming pool of GIIS was inaugurated on 20th September 2013.

The UP State U-11 Chess Championship was conducted at Noida on August 31st and 1st September.

GIIS, Noida participated in Delhi state Taekwon-Do championship at Thyagraj Stadium INA, New Delhi conducted by the Taekwondo Association of India (ITF) on November 22-23, 2013. Pre-primary and primary students won 4 Gold, 5 Silver and 6 Bronze Medals.

The First Annual Sports Day was an exciting event and was well attended by parents.

Best Foot ForwardThe culmination of the sports programme for the session 2013-14 was the Inter GIIS Chess Championship!

19 bright chess payers of GIIS India met on the chequered ground to combat in the wonderful game of chess. Competitors from GIIS campuses of Bangalore, Surat, Noida and Indore boarded their trains to meet GIIS Chinchwad.

Best Foot ForwardThe Inter-GIIS Chess Championship was held on 11th January in the Swiss League Format consisting of 5 rounds. Each player had 15 minutes on his clock to make his move. The students played swiftly, thought, calculated and pre-empted the opponent@aps@s next move. At the end of the game, GIIS Chinchwad won the championship with Ashutosh Bakre securing First place, Ashika Bakre achieving Second position and Manas Shah standing at third place. GIIS Indore was the First Runner-up and GIIS Noida became the Second Runner-up. Mr. Abhijeet Kunte, India@aps@s 4th Chess Grandmaster, presided over the event.
