INTACH ‘Save Tigers’: A skit and song that lingered on

INTACH 'Save Tigers'

The hall was abuzz with excitement of students of class 1, 2, and 3, who were waiting to see their fellow mates perform at the school assembly.

INTACH 'Save Tigers'Well, they ought to be overwhelmed as this was not one of those weekly assemblies. They were going to see their classmates sing a beautiful English song and a startling enactment on saving Tigers - our national animal. Above this, the students had seen the participants wearing adorable costumes of a tiger, scouring English hunters, and a bunch of protesters, and this certainly added to the flurry!

The assembly, themed ‘Save Tigers’, was part of INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage), aimed to spread awareness among the young students that tigers are extinct and poaching them is a crime. The well-written enactment and flawless performances captivated the students where the two English hunters shoot a huge bright yellow tiger, killing it mercilessly. The group of protesters gather and moan the death of the big cat and make the hunters realise that poaching of tigers leads to their extinction. All the students watching this were in awe when the tiger dies. The assembly ended with a famous song ‘Roar’ by English singer Katie Perry.

INTACH is a non-profit organisation which works for restoration of historic monuments, public awareness through heritage walks and buses, establishment of heritage clubs in schools, and holding of awareness workshop for teachers of schools and colleges. It also works to save the environment, its natural reserves, and protect rare animals
