GIIS Ahmedabad celebrated its first Annual Sports Day and Republic Day with grandeur and exhilaration. The program was witnessed by more than 500 enthusiastic parents and guests.

The day began with the flag hoisting ceremony by Chief Guest, Dr. Shailendra Gupta, noted educationist, Guest of Honour, Mr. Mahindra Kadia, renowned artist and Mr. Caesar D’Silva, Principal GIIS Ahmedabad. The ceremony was completed by singing National Anthem. While addressing the audience, Dr. Shailendra Gupta said that India is headed towards becoming the global leader and children are the future of a brighter India. Patriotic songs were sung and a fusion dance on the patriotic theme was performed by students that mesmerized the audience.

This was followed by flagging off the Sports Meet with the House-Captains as torch-bearers carried the flame round the track and passed it on to the Principal for lighting the cauldron and declare the Sports Meet open. Keeping in mind the spirit of sportsmanship, the Principal led the oath taking ceremony for all House-Captains, Vice-Captains and House-Mentors followed by the releasing of tricolour balloons that carried best wishes for the first Annual Sports Day of GIIS Ahmedabad. The students cheered their house participants and spurred them to go beyond their best. The parents’ presence encouraged the participants to manifest their hidden potentialities.

The tiny tots of the Pre-primary sections delighted one and all by taking their cute steps towards the finishing line while holding the tray of glass and beaded strings. The somersaults and Build-the-wall Race won the hearts of all those who witnessed the display by little GIIS-wonders. Their sporting activity was based on prefect usage of gross motor skills. The Surya Namaskar by the students of class I set the tempo of the sports day as they spread positive vibes and aura of the divine sun to add to the ambience. The Primary section exhibited a plethora of sporting events like the Turn-and-twist Race, Dress-me-Up Race, Birthday-App Race, 100 mtrs Race, 200 mtrs, Relay Race, skating and martial arts. The young champions of the Primary section displayed their kinesthetic skills by participating in various such events.

The day had in store great excitement for parents as well. It was amazing to see the parents, especially, mothers coming forward for various races organized for them. The tug of war between teachers and parents was a nail biting moment where the parent won over the teachers.

The confidence and the beaming smile of the winners to the victory podium conveyed the message of many potential budding Olympians at the ground during the prize distribution ceremony. The most awaited moment was the declaration of the best house and Chrysanthemum House was declared the Winner House, followed by Orchid House as the runner-up. Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Caesar D’Silva thanked the teachers and staff, parents and students for making the first Annual Sports Day of GIIS Ahmedabad the most happening event to mark the beginning of 2015 as it gave a fair platform to the students to display their talents. He congratulated all and said that every child who participated is a winner as participation is more important than winning.
