The first academic year for the little tiny tots of the Kindergarten came to an end with a grand culmination and graduation ceremony held at GIIS Ahmedabad. Students from Nursery to KG2 displayed their learnings of the whole year with an integrated presentation that involved skit, Montessori activities, rhymes, dance etc. The class teachers shared a presentation of the sweet memories of the year 2014-15 for their own classes.

The students of Kindergarten-1 presented a typical classroom teaching-learning environment. It began with a school prayer that was soothing and then the little ones demonstrated their Mathematical and Language Skills through Montessori activities like Seguin Board with short beads, LMA box, etc. Activities during the year, pertaining to the development of fine motor skills were demonstrated with nuts and bolts, pink tower and broad stairs materials. Children solved puzzles of parts of plants, matching flash cards of leaves with exact leaves.

A subtle message on the importance of Community helpers was given through an integrated skit on community helpers that involved doctors, vendors, traffic policeman, etc. The little doctor gave message on health and hygiene and also gave few tips on do and don’ts of swine flu. ‘Visit to a farm’ was enacted by children where they displayed knowledge of their learning about fruits, vegetables, farm animals, and their young ones. The presentation ended with an enthralling dance performance.

Students of Nursery commenced the presentation with a prayer “Om Bhur Bhuva Swaha” followed by a welcome dance on Bollywood medley. Children demonstrated their Phonics and Mathematic skills learned through matching games. The tiny tots matched the sounds with picture cards, and counted correct large beads to match the number card. The highlight of the presentation was the skit enacted by tiny tots on their favourite stories, The 3 little Pigs and Goldilocks and 3 Bears. They looked adorable and charming in their cute costumes. All the children performed Montessori activities showcasing their fine and gross motor skills, sensorial skills and PLE skills.

Students of Kindergarten 2 demonstrated Martial Arts that they had learnt throughout the year. Children welcomed the Principal and parents by reciting a poem, expressing their love for their teacher and the wonderful journey with lots of learning. The graduation song was sung a happy one themed on moving to class I. They demonstrated their language skills by reading passages and identifying sight words, rhyming words and framing sentences. Montessori activities with addition, subtraction using manipulatives were done by the students with great ease and confidence. Later the students recited a poem in Hindi using flash cards on “Swar Mala” and “Numbers”. The life cycle of butterfly was personified by the students followed by a skit on the importance of “Saving Trees”.

The students mesmerized the parents with their energetic dance performance. It was a moment of great pride for teachers, parents and the Principal to see their little ones in their graduation adornments holding their graduation certificates ready to step up the ladder. The teachers wished them happiness and success for the years to come.

While addressing the parents Mr. Caesar D’silva, Principal GIIS Ahmedabad emphasized on the freedom that every child should get while learning. He concluded by saying, “making mistakes is an important part of learning and childhood is the time for learning from the mistake so lets give the freedom to our children to explore the world.
