Education is a partnership between the school and the parents, and this collaborative effort contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the child’s capabilities, fostering a supportive and nurturing educational environment.

The Pre-Primary segment of GIIS Whitefield Bangalore initiated its first pilot project - My Learning Checkpoint, which is a progress tracker by parents for students of KG2. This is an innovative approach that renders the assessment process more holistic by including parental perspectives. 

To facilitate the process and ensure effectiveness, parents were given clear guidelines and instructions, outlining the purpose of the assessment along with guidance on how to conduct the activities. Rubric sheets were shared with parents to submit their observations and they were given a specific timeline for the completion of the assessment activities.

Parents were guided to evaluate their child’s grasp of basic concepts by working on different stations of interactive activities created by our dedicated educators such as numbers, letters, themes and concepts. This evaluation provided an understanding of the child’s grasp and retention of academic concepts. Parents were also asked to observe and assess their children’s social interactions, communication skills, and motor skills through simple activities. Both parents and students enjoyed the activities thoroughly. 

This initiative helped gauge a child’s learning holistically by taking into account the perspectives of the key stakeholder in a child’s life i.e. parent. This also helped the parents to step into the shoes of a teacher and understand the learning curve of their child. It was an occasion of bonding, connecting, and collaborating in the shared value of helping our children emerge as the best and most holistic version of themselves.
