“What does it take to be a champion? Desire, dedication, determination, concentration, and the will to win” - Patty Berg

The qualities mentioned in the above quote talk about the qualities of a champion. These qualities are the virtues that define the GIIS Ahmedabad chess champions. We are happy to share that  GIIS Ahmedabad chess masters have again proved their mettle by winning the ‘Champions’ title at the prestigious Sports For All (SFA) Chess Tournament. We proudly announce that SFA has recognised GIIS Ahmedabad as the ‘Best School in Sports’ for Chess with 15 points (2 Gold, 1 Silver, and 2 Bronze Medals).

GIIS Ahmedabad’s Chess Candidate Masters Aditri Shome and Margi Chudasama competed in the U-15 girls category to bag the 1st (gold medal) and 2nd (silver medal) positions at the SFA chess tournament. With his analytical thinking, patience and concentration, Aatman Raval also won 1st position and a gold medal in the U-15 boys category. The youngest and brightest of all, Aarav Kumar achieved 3rd position and a bronze medal in the U-13 boys category.

We would also like to congratulate Mr. Jasvantsinh Darbar (PE Teacher) and Mr. Ashok Solanki (Chess Coach) for their dedication and tireless efforts in training,  motivating and guiding the students.

Our undisputed champion, Aditri Shome shared her happiness and said, “It was amazing to compete with all the chess masters. They all were extraordinary and I have tried to learn something from each one of them. I would like to dedicate this victory to my parents who have always been 100% supportive.” Recently, Aditri represented India at the Asian Youth Chess Championship held in UAE which has increased her ELO rating to 81 points in the Standard category and 26 points in the Rapid category.

Aatman Raval’s calm and never-giving-up attitude has nurtured him to be a champion player of GIIS Ahmedabad and has won laurels for the school. He said, “The competition was tough but as I always suggest - be confident and believe in the practice. I practice for more than 4 to 6 hours a day.” Aatman has also led Gujarat state to 4th place triumph at SGFI National Chess Tournament.

Like the last CBSE West Zone Championship, Margi Chudasama has again proved herself as a testament to unwavering dedication and tireless efforts. She shared, “Playing in the competition was a thrilling and nostalgic experience. I left no stone unturned to win the competition. This year has been amazing for me!” Margi’s exceptional performance in the CBSE West Zone Championship bagged her the board prize with a perfect score of 5 points out of 5 rounds.

Aarav is the youngest of all the players representing GIIS Ahmedabad. He shared, “The sheer thought of participation in chess competitions and planning to play with full dedication helped me boost my confidence and bagged me 3rd position in the tournament.” Along with the CBSE West Zone tournament, Aarav Kumar along with three others acclaimed the title of Champions.

The remarkable achievements of our future grandmasters highlight individual talents and underscore the dedication and expert training provided by GIIS Ahmedabad. We congratulate all the chess champions for making their parents and school proud. We wish them all good luck in their future endeavours.
