“Perhaps there is no happiness in life so perfect as the martyrs.” – O.Henry

We, at GIIS Ahmedabad, inculcate great values among our children to nurture them as the ambassadors of positive change so that they can become responsible citizens of the country. As a part of this endeavour, Martyr Day was commemorated at GIIS Ahmedabad with a special assembly by grade 9 students.

The significance of Martyrs Day helps us understand the value of freedom and the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters to attain it.

The assembly began with a prayer song ‘Vaishnao Jan Toh’ as a tribute to the martyrs. Principal -Mr. Caesar D’silva, Vice Principal Ms. Monita Dash, and Coordinator Mr. Shailendra Agarwal lit the ceremonial lamp to seek the blessings of God and the brave souls of our martyrs. Grade 9 and 11 students sang a song expressing their love for the nation which filled the atmosphere with the enthusiasm of patriotism. The students enacted a skit ‘Shaheedo Ki Gaatha’ to depict the unwavering determination, selfless sacrifices, and courage of the freedom fighters which paved the way for India’s eventual liberation. It brought back the poignant memories of India’s struggle for freedom.

The skit was followed by a dance performance on a medley of patriotic songs which ignited the feeling of ‘deshprem’ among the audience. Later, a quiz was also conducted for the teachers and students on Martyrs Day. The intent was to pay tribute to the memories of the brave martyrs who laid their lives for the betterment of the nation.

The event of Martyrs’ Day culminated with a special message from Principal, Mr. Caesar D’silva and Coordinator, Mr. Shailendra Agarwal who motivated the students to love the country and remember the sacrifices of our ancestors.

Such events at GIIS Ahmedabad encourage students to understand the importance of contributing positively to society. The assembly left a lasting impression on the students emphasizing to preservation of the martyr’s legacy for future generations. At GIIS, we give our students a chance to be out in the community and have social interactions that nurture the society at large.
