GIIS Ahmedabad celebrates Women’s Day with classical music extravaganza

In an era where modern culture dominates the airwaves, classical music's timeless melodies remain an enduring charm. At Global Indian International School (GIIS), Ahmedabad, students, parents, teachers and school management came together to celebrate Women’s Day with a spectacular musical afternoon, in collaboration with Kalavant Academy, USA, based on the theme - ‘The Raga of Happiness: The amalgamation of Shakti & Shiv’. 

GIIS Ahmedabad’s Sangeet Therapy event was a tribute to Ustad Raheman Khan - a renowned tabla player. The event was graced by the musical maestros - Ustad Kadar Khan, Ustad Ilmas Khan, Shri Pankaj Chowdhary and Ustad Azam Ali Khan.

The event commenced with the auspicious lighting of the lamp and recitation of shlokas to invoke the blessings of the Almighty. Mr. Caesar D’silva, Principal, GIIS Ahmedabad initiated the event with the importance of music in our fast-paced life. He emphasized integrating music therapy into the curriculum to nurture the holistic development of the students. 

The melodious event started with the captivating performances by the renowned maestros - Ustad Aadil Khan (male-vocalist), Ms. Rupali Soni (vocalist), Ustad Azam Ali Khan (tabla), Shri Rajat Posala (harmonium), and Shri Pryansh Rajput (keyboard). The mastery of the baton commanded the attention of a large audience in the multi-purpose hall of GIIS Ahmedabad. 

These maestros showcased their impeccable skills and profound understanding of Indian classical music. Transcending all barriers, the audience enjoyed a diverse rendition of the Bhajans, Sufi music, Ghazals and Bollywood music. 

Following them - the senior musicians - Ustad Ilmas Khan, Shri Pankaj Chowdhary - world-renowned tabla maestros from Lucknow Gharana along with harmonium players graced the stage with their awe-inspiring performance. With fingers flyers on the tabla in a mesmerising display of agility, these veteran tabla players transported the audience to the heights of musical heaven. Each piece was infused with emotion, reflecting Ustad Ilmas Khan’s unparalleled artistry and profound connection to the music.

In addition to the spectacular performances, the event also served as a valuable educational opportunity for the spectators, providing them with witness first-hand brilliance of world-class musicians and gaining insight into the complexities of classical music interpretation. 

As the final notes echoed and applause filled the hall of GIIS Ahmedabad, it was clear that the ‘Women’s Day Sangeet Therapy’ had left an indelible mark on all who attended it. Through the ultimate power of music, the event united individuals from all spheres, ranks and statuses to share the celebration of creativity, harmony, and the enduring legacy of Indian classical music.
