Exploring the field of Forensics: GIIS Ahmedabad’s Journey to the Biochemistry and Forensic Lab at Gujarat University

“Dreams become attainable when passion fuels our journey. Let your aspirations guide you, and never lose sight of your fire within.” - Dr. Rakesh Rawal, HOD Biochemistry and Forensics - Gujarat University

In scientific exploration, few experiences are as captivating and enlightening as a visit to a biochemistry and forensic laboratory. GIIS Ahmedabad career counselling and university team initiated an educational visit to the Biochemistry and Forensic Lab at Gujarat University. The biology students of Grades 11 and 12 embarked on an enlightening journey to delve into the fascinating realms of Biochemistry and Forensic Science. The visit aimed to provide first-hand experience and practical insights into these fields of study.

The biochemistry lab served as the hub of scientific exploration wherein students witnessed the application of theoretical knowledge in practical examination. They saw various instruments including protein quantification, enzyme kinetics, and DNA analysis. This hands-on experience reinforced classroom learning and instilled a deeper appreciation of the intricacies of biochemical processes. GIIS Ahmedabad students were later provided with the invaluable opportunity to gain insights into the practical applications of these instruments in research endeavours.

The forensic laboratory serves as a stage for unravelling mysteries, where every piece of evidence tells a story waiting to be deciphered, guided by seasoned forensic experts, students delve into crime scene investigation, forensic toxicology and DNA profiling. Following the lab tour, the students interacted with Mr Rakesh Rawal, HOD of the Biochemistry and Forensic Department, at Gujarat University. He emphasized the significance of passion in achieving dreams and urged students to channel their interest into a driving force for success.

Sharing his experience, Lakshya Mittal, a Class 11 student said, “The experience was extremely enthusiastic and I was interested to see investigative and maybe post-proterm things. I was more fascinated seeing the types of equipment and an interactive session with Mr. Rakesh Rawal which cleared our doubts on career options and forensic science.”

An educational trip to the Biochemistry and Forensic Laboratory transcends the boundaries of traditional learning, offering students a holistic perspective on the scientific endeavour. As students witness the convergence of science and society, they are empowered to become critical thinkers, ethical practitioners, and lifelong learners in the ever-evolving landscape of scientific exploration.
