TOKYO, 20 JULY, 2018: Annual Mathematics Activity week provided the students with opportunities to exhibit their talent, share their knowledge with peers and learn the skill of drawing mathematical conclusion.
During the activity week, students performed different stimulating activities, like drawing a circle using a pencil and a ruler, to finding the HCF through a friendly dice play, rotating an alphabet around a fixed point, finding surface area of a solid from its net, finding the area of a classroom, measuring the height of a building using Clinometer and making mind maps on topics taught in mathematics.
Each grade engaged in mathematical activities of different difficulty level, depending on their seniority. Children were bubbling with competitive spirit and showed a lot of innovativtion and enthusiastism. Grade 7 students presented their work in a unique way, while grade 5 enthusiastically solved HCF sums. Grade 6 activity was slightly difficult, but yet the students did it very well with all their concepts cleared. The students of Grades 8 and 10 were exposed to real life mathematical challenges. Grade 9 students had a mindmap activity with the Vice Principal, who is also their math’s teacher.
The Vice Principal shared that “having the mindmap activity for the students of Class 9 was indirectly an assessment of our ongoing professional development conducted by GIIS for teachers and the effectiveness of the same was brilliantly tested when students came up with remarkable mindmaps created based on the topics studied in class.”
The activity, held from 9th July to 13th July, was an initiative by the mathematics department at the Nishi Kasai Campus, and was organized in cooperation with the students.
The Head of the Mathematics Department at the Higashi Kasai High School Campus, Ms. Neerja Koul said that, “There is no doubt that our students are filled with extreme talents and they all completed their activities while learning their concepts. Such events prove how children are able to relate their concepts in real life events. It was very delightful to see some amazing projects shown by students based on different topics. It really makes us say that: “Show them the way, they will proceed, support and encourage them, they will be the best indeed.”
