The IBPYP (Candidate School) at Higashikasai Campus piloted a ‘Drop Everything and Read’ time (better known as D.E.A.R time), on June 7, 2019, inside the school’s auditorium.
D.E.A.R is a time set aside in the classroom schedule for both students and their teachers to “drop everything and read”. It is a shared experience and gets the students and their teachers talk about books and reading while conveying a strong message that reading must be given a priority in life. The aim of such sessions is also to influence the students to make reading a regular part of their routine.
The students at the Higashikasai campus snuggled up on their blankets and pillows in the school auditorium on the day. They all brought at least three books with them, and some even got up to read into the microphone for everyone to hear them.
At the end of the session, the students were all awarded with bright and colourful Global Indian International School certificates for their exceptional reading skills. The students held their certificates with pride and were seen discussing their achievements. It was an exciting and refreshing change from the usual school day, and it gave the students something to talk about to with their parents.
