The students from GIIS Tokyo will be collaborating with the students from Shinozaki Metropolitan High School, for a traditional Japanese drumming performance.
The Shinozaki Taiko Club has invited the GIIS Tokyo IBDP students to learn a piece for their end-of-year concert, which will be held on March 11. The students rehearsed for their performance by learning the correct forms and techniques while playing the Taiko drums.
Collaborating with a Japanese high school club activity can be demanding work. The students had to go through two-hour rehearsals after they were done with their classes. Working across languages, the students worked together to memorize the routine and refine the motions.
The upcoming collaboration is aimed at building relationships not only between GIIS Tokyo and local schools but also between our student bodies. Students also exchanged gifts, shared ideas, and joked together during and after practices.
This is only the beginning of a long working relationship between our two communities.
The performance will be held on Saturday, March 11, at Shinzaki High School in the 3rd-floor Gymnasium, and it will begin at 14:50.
