GIIS Tokyo Higashikasai High School Campus students of Grades 9 and 10 (both CBSE and Cambridge) took part in an overnight trekking trip to the town of Okutama, in the Nishitama district in Tokyo in May 2019.
It was a first of its kind trip organized by the school and the entire event planning done by Ms. Satomi Ahmed and Ms. Sarbani Choudhry.
The objective of the trip was to develop an understanding of the natural world in the students and to gather direct experiences that will enable them to integrate their learning into the wider world.
The student group was accompanied by the School Vice Principal, Dr. Sandeep Singh and teachers, Ms. Sarbani Choudhry, Ms. Sotami Ahmed, Ms. Nisha Rejji and Mr. Justin Diraviam.
The students hiked all the way to reach the summit of Mount Gozen (1405m) that borders Lake Okutama in western Tokyo. With Mount Odake and Mount Mito, Mount Gozen is one of the so-called Three Mountains of Okutama.
The students also visited the Nippara Limestone Caves, and as the largest cave in the Kanto region, it attracts a lot of tourists each year.
The students and teachers were fascinated and thrilled by the trip that taught them about nature and helped build team spirit.
