On the morning of 12th May 2026, GIIS KL auditorium was filled with an air of intellectual reverence as the students of Cambridge Year 5 presented an insightful Icon Assembly dedicated to the life and legacy of Rabindranath Tagore. From 8:00 am to 8:40 am, the young learners took the audience on a journey through the history of one of India’s greatest poets, philosophers, and composers.Born on May 7, 1861, in Kolkata, Tagore was a visionary who reshaped Bengali literature and music. The students highlighted his monumental achievement as the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913 for his collection of poems, Gitanjali. Beyond his literary prowess, the assembly emphasized Tagore’s unique role as a composer, noting that he is the only person to have written the national anthems for two different nations: India’s Jana Gana Mana and Bangladesh’s Aamaar Sonaar Banglaa. The assembly was deeply rooted in the school’s commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and GIIS 9 Gems framework. The students eloquently linked Tagore’s life work to SDG 4 (Quality Education) through his founding of Visva-Bharati University, and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions) by discussing his advocacy for universal humanism. His efforts toward village self-reliance and environmental sustainability were tied to SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 13 (Climate Action), respectively. Furthermore, the presentation showcased several "Gems," including Personality Development, Innovation and Creativity, and Universal Values and Ethics, reflecting the well-rounded character of the icon himself. The highlight of the event was a moving cultural performance. Adrish, a Year 5 student, delivered a soulful rendition of the famous Bengali song “Ekla Cholo Re.” Accompanied by the melodic tones of the piano, the performance captured the song’s powerful message of courage and the determination to walk alone for a righteous cause.Through slides, storytelling, and music, the Cambridge Year 5 students successfully celebrated a true icon of humanity. The assembly served as a reminder that Tagore’s message of peace, creativity, and harmony remains as relevant today as it was over a century ago.

This signature event brought together the sharpest minds from Hibiscus, Sunflower, Orchid, and Chrysanthemum houses for a day of rigorous intellectual exchange and spirited oratory. The competition was structured in two distinct phases, designed to test the depth and agility of the participants' reasoning. The preliminary round, held within classrooms under the keen supervision of teachers, challenged students with the contemporary motion: “Podcasts and audiobooks are the future of storytelling.” Emerging from a pool of talented speakers, the most articulate debaters were selected to represent their houses in the grand finale. The atmosphere shifted to the school auditorium for the final round, where the stakes were raised. In the presence of a distinguished panel of judges and a captive audience of peers and faculty, finalists tackled the provocative topic: “Authors should interact with readers on social media.” Each house presented a balanced team, with speakers delivering structured arguments "for" and "against" the motion. The energy in the room peaked during the rebuttal rounds, where students demonstrated remarkable presence of mind, dismantling opposing arguments with surgical precision and wit.Beyond the trophies and accolades, the event served a larger purpose. Deeply rooted in the school’s commitment to holistic growth, the competition aligned with the 9GEMS framework, specifically focusing on Academic Excellence, Personality Development, and Leadership. Furthermore, by fostering an environment of structured dialogue, the event mirrored the objectives of UN Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). The judges evaluated the participants not just on their research and content, but on the nuance of their delivery and their ability to remain composed under pressure.
On April 30th, 2026, the Kindergarten classrooms were transformed into a vibrant sea of emerald as our youngest learners gathered for Go Green Day. Dressed in various shades of green to symbolize their connection to nature, the students embarked on a meaningful journey to understand their role in protecting our planet. This special event was designed to plant the seeds of environmental stewardship, encouraging children to appreciate the natural world while learning how simple, daily habits can make a global impact. The day began with an interactive sharing session where teachers introduced the core concepts of sustainability. The children discussed the importance of keeping our surroundings clean and explored the "Three Rs": Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. These lessons directly align with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land). By grounding these big ideas in a classroom setting, the event helped the students see themselves as "eco-heroes" capable of making positive choices for a greener future.Hands-on learning took center stage as the students participated in a variety of engaging activities. Creativity blossomed during the recycling craft workshop, where students turned used materials into unique pieces of art, proving that "waste" can often be a resource in disguise. To sharpen their practical skills, the children practiced sorting items into dedicated recycling bins and played eco-friendly games that emphasized resource conservation. These activities served to nurture the 9 Gems, specifically focusing on environmental awareness, responsibility, and teamwork. The celebration reached an inspiring conclusion with a "Green Pledge." With small hands raised, the students promised to care for the environment and protect the Earth’s resources. Following the pledge, the classrooms hosted a showcase where the children proudly displayed their recycled masterpieces. Through this blend of play and purpose, the Go Green event successfully fostered a deep love for nature, equipping our kindergarteners with the mindset needed to grow into conscious, responsible citizens.

Grade 10’s Modern Take on "A Letter to God"

The classroom was recently transformed into a stage for the students of Grade 10, who participated in a dynamic English activity titled "A Letter to God." Moving beyond the traditional confines of the CBSE curriculum, the students organized a thought-provoking skit that explored the profound depths of faith and human nature. The activity was rooted in the holistic 9Gems framework, specifically targeting Gem 5 (Innovation and Creativity) and Gem 3 (Visual and Performing Arts). Rather than a direct adaptation of the classic story of Lencho, the students demonstrated remarkable ingenuity by developing an entirely original storyline. The performance featured a modern-day protagonist facing a personal crisis, echoing Lencho's unwavering trust in a higher power while navigating the complexities of the 21st century.Through imaginative scriptwriting and carefully structured scenes, the narrative reinterpreted the concept of divine intervention. In a clever narrative twist, the skit highlighted how human kindness and proactive intervention often serve as the true catalysts for the "miracles" we seek. The performance was characterized by meaningful dialogue, subtle humor, and an emotional depth that resonated with the audience.By stepping into their characters with confidence and conviction, the students showcased not only their acting prowess but also their ability to collaborate and communicate effectively. This activity served as a powerful bridge between literature and real-world application, encouraging students to move past rote learning and engage in critical, analytical thinking. Ultimately, the skit was a commendable success, leaving both the performers and the audience with a deeper, more nuanced understanding of faith and the human spirit.

The Cambridge department recently hosted a magnificent two-day spectacle, Cambridge Got Talent (Mr & Ms Cambridge), at the GIIS KL Auditorium. Far more than a traditional beauty pageant, this event served as a vibrant platform for students from Standards 1 to 10 to demonstrate their leadership, eloquence, and individuality. On April 24th and 25th, the GIIS KL community witnessed a remarkable transformation of students into confident performers and global thinkers, aligning perfectly with the school’s commitment to holistic development through the GIIS 9 Gems and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Round 1: Cultural Fusion and Timeless Grace The festivities commenced on Friday, April 24th, and were immediately electrified by a special guest performance from Pravinjeet Singh Aujla, the reigning Mr. Cambridge 2025, who set a high bar for the contestants. The first round was defined by two distinct and evocative fashion themes. The Primary segment celebrated the African Heritage Fusion (Gold Coast), where younger students vibrantly honored West African traditions through Kente patterns and royal symbolism. In contrast, the Secondary segment embraced the Old Money Aesthetic, where older students showcased maturity and poise through refined dressing and vintage-inspired sophistication. The morning continued with the highly anticipated Talent Time, a segment where students broke away from academic rigors to share their personal strengths. From rhythmic dancing and soulful singing to persuasive public speaking, the stage became a canvas for creativity. This initial round concluded with constructive feedback from the panel of esteemed judges and the suspenseful announcement of the semi-finalists, marking a successful beginning to the competition. Round 2: Sophistication and Global AwarenessThe momentum carried into Saturday, April 25th, as the competition moved into Round 2. This stage of the event pushed contestants to go deeper, beginning with an even more diverse Talent Show that included stand-up comedy and creative presentations. The fashion element evolved into the Ballroom Attire Fashion Walk, where contestants traded cultural themes for formal evening wear. This segment was designed to teach students the nuances of formal etiquette, coordinated movement, and the kind of "leadership presence" required in professional and ceremonial environments. However, the true test for the finalists came during the Global Perspectives Question and Quiz Session. Here, students moved beyond aesthetics to engage with critical real-world issues. By responding to questions regarding social responsibility, cultural understanding, and global citizenship, participants proved they are not only talented performers but also informed young leaders capable of analytical thinking and articulate self-expression. A Legacy of Holistic DevelopmentThe success of Cambridge Got Talent was a testament to the school's dedication to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality), providing an inclusive stage where every student, regardless of gender or background, could shine. By integrating the GIIS 9 Gems, specifically Academic Excellence through communication and Visual and Performing Arts, the event ensured that students grew in confidence and character. As the curtain fell on Round 2, it was clear that the journey through these two days had fostered a spirit of teamwork and universal values, leaving the audience inspired by the sheer potential of the Cambridge department's rising stars.

April in Full Bloom: Learning, Milestones, and Community at GIIS Nagpur

Dear Parents,Greetings from GIIS, Nagpur! April 2026 has been, by any measure, an exceptional month. Our students rose to every occasion with a maturity and enthusiasm that continues to make this school community something truly worth celebrating. K2 Graduation Day was nothing short of a spectacle. Watching our youngest students walk across the stage — composed, beaming, and being enthusiastic — was a reminder of how much can change in a single year. The dance performances were full of life, the children’s song was sung with real feeling, and the graduation walk carried a weight of quiet pride that was hard to miss. Behind every smile was a year’s worth of learning, adjustment, and growth. These children were ready for what comes next, and it showed. On 17 April, our Nursery and K1 students completed the My Learning Checkpoint — an assessment that covered Language and Literacy, Early Mathematics, Hindi, Cultural Studies, and Montessori Activities. What stood out was not just the progress the children have made, but also the manner in which they approached the tasks: with focus, patience, and genuine interest. That spirit of engagement nurtured equally at school and at home. Grade 9 students spent a day at the Raman Science Centre, and it was an experience, which classrooms cannot replicate. They moved through exhibits, asked questions, and tested ideas first-hand. Science, when encountered this way, stops being abstract. Several students came back with questions that carried well into the following days — which is precisely the point of such visits. Towards the close of the academic year, students gathered for the Year-End Magic Show. There is real value in moments like these — shared laughter, a sense of occasion, the feeling of having earned a rest. The show did all of that. It was a fitting way to mark the end of a year of sustained effort, and students left in high spirits. April concluded with the Talent Show for Grades 1A, 1B, and 2A. Some children sang, others danced, and many surprised us with acts we had not anticipated. What struck us most was not the polish of the performances but the courage behind them — stepping onto a stage takes something, and every student who did so deserves to be acknowledged for it. The energy in the hall that evening was something the whole school will remember. As we move into the summer recess, we look back on April with considerable pride. None of this happens without the partnership of parents, the dedication of our teachers, and the willingness of our students to show up, try, and grow. Thank you for that, sincerely. We hope you enjoy a peaceful and well-deserved summer break! Warm regards,Nidhi GuptaPrincipalGIIS Lava, Nagpur

Ready, Set, Read: GIIS KL’s Week of Literary Discovery

The classrooms of GIIS KL transformed into vibrant hubs of literary exploration last month as students from Grade 1 through Grade 8 participated in the annual Reading Marathon. This immersive initiative was designed to do more than just improve literacy; it aimed to spark imagination, build lasting confidence, and nurture a profound, lifelong love for books. By weaving together the school’s 9GEMS framework and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the event ensured that every page turned contributed to the holistic growth and global awareness of our students. Building Foundations: Grades 1 and 2From April 20th to 24th, Grade 1 and 2 students embarked on a week-long journey of discovery. The marathon kicked off with a burst of creativity as students designed personalized bookmarks, establishing a sense of ownership over their reading journey. The following days introduced "Buddy Day," where children shared stories with schoolmates and soft toys to lower reading anxiety, and "Musical Books," a playful twist on musical chairs that encouraged students to explore unfamiliar genres. The momentum continued with the "Sight Word Champion" sprint, boosting fluency through high-energy word recognition. The week culminated in a grand Book Character Day, where classrooms were filled with heroes and heroines from beloved stories. These activities directly supported SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education) while touching upon nearly every GEM, from Academic Excellence to Universal Values and Ethics. Developing Fluency: Grades 3 to 5For students in Grades 3 to 5, the marathon took place over five dedicated English periods between April 15th and 21st. The focus shifted toward strengthening comprehension and critical thinking. The marathon began with silent reading sessions to build concentration, followed by Round Robin Reading to encourage peer collaboration and discussion. To challenge their analytical skills, students were tasked with predicting story endings, fostering a deeper engagement with narrative structures. Creative expression was highlighted on the fourth day as students designed original book covers, and the event concluded with a "Book Talk Bonanza." During this final session, students presented reviews and shared their personal takeaways, aligning perfectly with Gem 9 (Skill Development) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by ensuring every voice was heard in an inclusive environment. Cultivating Culture: Grades 6 to 8The senior participants in Grades 6 through 8 engaged in a sustained marathon from April 13th to 22nd, focusing on specific genres to broaden their horizons. Sixth graders delved into fairy tales, seventh graders explored comedy, and eighth graders tackled adventure and thrillers. Every day, the final ten minutes of the English period were dedicated to quiet immersion in their chosen books. To bridge the gap between reading and vocabulary building, students identified and recorded new words, which were then compiled into a collaborative "Class Dictionary" displayed on classroom soft boards. The marathon reached its peak on the final day when students dressed as their favorite characters and performed dramatic readings of their favorite excerpts. This initiative seamlessly blended Gem 4 (Personality Development) with the rigors of Academic Excellence, demonstrating that reading is a powerful tool for both personal and intellectual growth. The Reading Marathon was a resounding success across all grade levels. Through a blend of laughter, creativity, and focused study, GIIS KL students proved that books are not merely objects on a shelf, but doors to new worlds of friendship and confidence. As the marathon concluded, it left behind a strengthened reading culture and a community of students ready to embrace the power of the written word.

This special event was designed to spark a lifelong passion for wildlife conservation, teaching students the vital importance of protecting endangered species and the natural world they inhabit. The day began with an immersive storytelling and video session. Students were introduced to the majestic world of tigers, learning about their lush forest habitats and the challenges these "Kings of the Jungle" face in the wild. These age-appropriate discussions helped the children grasp why tigers are endangered and, more importantly, how humans can play a role in their survival. To bring their learning to life, the children dove into a variety of creative hands-on activities.
Bringing Literature to Life: Grade 11 Explores 'Project Hail Mary' Through Interactive Debate

On April 20, 2026, the Grade 11 students turned their classroom into a dynamic forum for literary critique and creative exploration. In an innovative session titled “Debate the Author,” the students moved beyond traditional reading to engage in a live, intellectually stimulating confrontation with the themes and mechanics of Andy Weir’s celebrated novel, Project Hail Mary. The activity was framed under the 9Gems framework, specifically targeting Gem 5 (Innovation and Creativity) and Gem 3 (Visual and Performing Arts). By blending performance with analytical rigor, the session challenged students to think critically about the narrative choices that shape a modern sci-fi masterpiece. The centerpiece of the event was a "live appearance" by the author, portrayed with remarkable depth by student Ankush Panda. Stepping into the role with confidence, Ankush maintained an authentic and immersive persona throughout the session. He navigated a barrage of inquiries from his peers, staying true to the author’s voice while defending the scientific and thematic logic of the book. The participating students did not shy away from difficult questions. Their inquiries spanned the spectrum of the novel's construction, touching on specific plot pivots, the nuances of character development, and the complex scientific elements that define the story. The wit and "out-of-the-box" thinking displayed by the class turned the debate into a high-energy exchange, showcasing their ability to analyze literature through a skeptical yet creative lens.Beyond the academic benefits, the "Debate the Author" activity served as a vital platform for enhancing soft skills. Students were required to articulate their thoughts under pressure, build persuasive arguments, and explore alternative perspectives on the fly. This interactive approach proved that literature is not a static medium, but a living dialogue between creator and audience. The event concluded as a resounding success, leaving the students with a deeper appreciation for the creative process. By stepping into the shoes of both the critic and the creator, Grade 11 demonstrated that innovation and curiosity are the ultimate keys to understanding the world, and the books, around them.
