Conducted in the AV Room by School Counsellor Ms Reeta Sharma and Special Educator Ms Simran Nagpal, the session aimed to provide students with an age-appropriate understanding of puberty, menstruation, personal hygiene and self-care.The session began with a discussion on growing up as a natural process, highlighting that every individual develops at their own pace. Students were introduced to the physical changes associated with puberty, including changes in height, body hair and other aspects of development. The discussion encouraged them to understand and respect the fact that everyone’s experience of growing up is different. The facilitators explained menstruation in simple, age-appropriate language, emphasising that periods are a normal biological process and nothing to feel embarrassed or ashamed about. Students were also guided on the importance of menstrual hygiene and preparedness, including maintaining a simple period kit with essential items for unexpected situations.Addressing practical concerns, the session discussed how students could respond if their periods began at school. They were encouraged to remain calm and seek assistance from a trusted teacher, school counsellor, parent or caregiver. The discussion reassured them that they would always have access to support and that asking for help is an important part of self-care.The session also explored the physical and emotional experiences associated with menstruation, such as cramps, tiredness, discomfort and mood changes. Students were encouraged to listen to their bodies, maintain healthy habits and communicate with trusted adults if they experienced significant discomfort. The importance of adequate rest, hydration, nutritious meals and personal hygiene was reinforced throughout the session. To make the learning experience interactive, students participated in a ‘Myth or Fact’ activity, which helped them identify and clarify common misconceptions about menstruation. Situational discussions further encouraged them to think about responding confidently and sensitively to everyday situations, such as noticing a spot on their clothes during class or hearing misconceptions about periods. The session concluded with five key messages: growing up is normal, everyone develops at their own pace, periods are natural and not shameful, being prepared makes menstruation easier to manage, and seeking help from a trusted adult is always encouraged. The session provided a safe and supportive platform for students to openly discuss growing up and menstruation. Through meaningful conversations and interactive activities, it aimed to build awareness, confidence and a positive attitude towards body changes, personal hygiene and overall well-being.

GIIS Hadapsar conducted a Gender Sensitivity session for boys of Grades 4 and 5 to encourage awareness about gender equality, mutual respect, empathy and inclusivity. The session aimed to help students understand the importance of treating everyone with kindness, fairness and dignity, while encouraging them to question traditional gender stereotypes.Through age-appropriate examples and interactive discussions, students explored common assumptions such as “Boys should do this” or “Girls should do that” and reflected on how these beliefs can limit individual interests, abilities and choices. They were encouraged to understand that activities such as dancing, cooking, sports, science and art are open to everyone, irrespective of gender. The session highlighted the importance of breaking gender stereotypes and promoting equal opportunities and responsibilities. Students discussed how household chores, including cooking, cleaning, organizing and caregiving, should be shared equally among family members. They also explored the importance of emotional expression, understanding that feelings such as sadness, fear, worry and disappointment are natural and expressing them is a sign of emotional awareness rather than weakness.Another key focus of the session was respectful communication and personal boundaries. Students learned the difference between genuine compliments and unnecessary comments that may make others feel uncomfortable or embarrassed. They were encouraged to avoid sexist jokes, offensive remarks, teasing and bullying, and to choose words that promote a safe and inclusive environment. To help students put these learnings into practice, the SAM Rule was introduced. The simple approach encourages students to Stop before saying or doing something that could hurt someone, Ask themselves whether their words or actions are kind, respectful and necessary, and Move On if they are inappropriate. This practical tool helped students understand the importance of thinking before speaking or acting. The session emphasized that gender equality begins with everyday attitudes, words and actions. By encouraging empathy, emotional awareness, shared responsibilities and respect for individual choices, the discussion helped students recognize their role in creating an environment where everyone feels valued and included. The session concluded with the message that everyone deserves kindness, dignity, respect and equality. It reinforced the importance of engaging boys in conversations about gender sensitivity and empowering them to challenge stereotypes and contribute towards building a safe, inclusive and gender-equal society.

From September 21st to September 25th, 2026, the Kindergarten classrooms were filled with enthusiasm and learning as students participated in Responsible Week. Designed to cultivate essential life values from an early age, this event focused on fostering independence, self-discipline, and a genuine care for oneself, peers, and the environment. Through age-appropriate, hands-on activities, the week aligned directly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), while reinforcing core 9 Gems values such as social and emotional intelligence, self-discipline, and ethics.Throughout the week, students engaged in targeted experiential learning tailored to their development levels. Our students from Kindergarten 1 took ownership of their shared environment by taking active responsibility for their classroom space. They learned the importance of organizing learning materials, keeping their surroundings clean, and treating equipment with respect and care. This practical focus helped instill positive habits and a collective pride in maintaining their daily space.Meanwhile, our Kindergarten 2 students embarked on a heartwarming home-school connection project. Each student was entrusted with a toy duckie to take home and care for across the week. By feeding, playing with, and ensuring the safety of their duckie companion, the children practiced empathy and nurturing routines. This interactive activity provided a tangible way for young learners to understand what it means to be responsible for another creature's well-being.By connecting daily routines with foundational values, Responsible Week succeeded in creating an empowering environment where young children learned that even small actions contribute to a respectful and thoughtful community.
