Developing healthy habits and a sense of responsibility starts at the very beginning of a child's educational journey. To instill these essential values early on, the Kindergarten department recently organized "Grooming Day" on May 11, 2026. This special event was dedicated to teaching our youngest learners the vital importance of personal hygiene, self-care, and maintaining a neat appearance, setting a solid foundation for their independence and self-confidence.The day aligned beautifully with global and holistic educational standards, directly supporting UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by promoting healthy practices that prevent illness, alongside SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the cultivation of essential life skills. Furthermore, the initiative seamlessly integrated the school’s 9 Gems framework. By learning to manage their daily routines, the students nurtured personal responsibility, discipline, and independence. Practicing these skills alongside their peers also boosted their communication skills and fostered a deep sense of respect for themselves and those around them.To make the learning experience both impactful and age-appropriate, the event was structured around fun, interactive, and hands-on activities. The morning kicked off with a lively introduction to cleanliness and why looking neat makes us feel good. Teachers then stepped up to demonstrate foundational grooming skills, showing the children the proper techniques for washing hands, brushing teeth, combing hair, dressing neatly, and keeping nails tidy.Following the demonstrations, the classroom transformed into a bustling hub of practical learning. The children rotated through small, specialized activity stations designed just for them. Armed with child-friendly materials like oversized toothbrush models, safety mirrors, combs, and dress-up sets, the students enthusiastically put their new knowledge into practice. The excitement continued with short, creative role-play sessions where the children practiced getting ready for school all by themselves, interspersed with catchy hygiene songs and engaging storytelling that kept spirits high. The successful event wrapped up with a meaningful reflection session. Together, the proud kindergarteners took a simple, heartfelt "I can take care of myself" pledge, promising to bring these wonderful new habits home to their families and continue practicing them every single day at school.

Mental Health Awareness Month serves as an important reminder that well-being is a shared responsibility, and that those who dedicate themselves to supporting others also need opportunities to care for themselves. Keeping this in mind, the Counselling and Special Education Department at GIIS Whitefield conducted a series of well-being sessions for teaching staff across all school segments during May under the theme “More Good Days Together.”Teaching is a profession that demands empathy, patience, and constant engagement. While educators work tirelessly to nurture the academic and emotional growth of their students, their own mental and emotional wellness can often take a back seat. The well-being sessions were designed to encourage teachers to pause, reflect, and invest time in their personal well-being.A range of mindfulness practices, grounding exercises, and reflective activities formed the core of the sessions. These experiences provided teachers with practical tools to manage stress, maintain emotional balance, and approach their daily responsibilities with greater clarity and resilience. The sessions also created a supportive space where educators could reconnect with themselves and with one another.Strong educator well-being plays a vital role in shaping a positive school culture. Classrooms become more engaging, inclusive, and emotionally safe when teachers feel supported and empowered. By focusing on self-care and mental wellness, educators are better positioned to inspire confidence, foster meaningful relationships, and create enriching learning experiences for their students. The initiative received an enthusiastic response from participants, many of whom found the sessions refreshing and uplifting. As the new academic year begins, the insights and practices shared during these sessions are expected to contribute to a healthier, more balanced, and positive learning environment for the entire school community.Through initiatives like “More Good Days Together,” GIIS Whitefield continues to reinforce the importance of mental well-being, ensuring that educators feel valued, supported, and equipped to thrive both personally and professionally.

A Beautiful Lesson in Love as Grade 10 Pens Letters from the Heart

The standard classroom routine took a beautiful, emotional detour for the Grade 10 students on May 11, 2026. Under the guidance of their English teacher, Ms. Anuradha, the classroom transformed from a space of rigorous academic preparation into a sanctuary of raw emotion and deep gratitude. Titled "Letters from the Heart," this meaningful language activity successfully bridged the gap between effective written communication and familial bonding, proving that education is at its best when it touches both the mind and the soul. The exercise introduced a thoughtful visual element to guide the students' expressions: the young men of the class poured their gratitude onto pink sheets dedicated to their mothers, while the young women penned their heartfelt thoughts on blue sheets meant for their fathers. Far from a simple writing drill, the session saw students enthusiastically diving deep into their personal relationships, translating years of unsaid thanks, shared memories, and quiet admiration into powerful prose. By encouraging this level of introspection, the initiative seamlessly aligned with the GIIS 9 Gems framework; specifically targeting Personality Development (Gem 4) and Skill Development (Gem 9), while championing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal for Quality Education (SDG 4).When these letters finally made their way home, the impact was profound. Parents were deeply moved by the unexpected maturity, absolute honesty, and emotional depth radiating from their children's words. The gesture left many parents incredibly touched, with several noting how deeply memorable and special the experience was for their families. In the days following the activity, praise poured in from the parent community, who warmly commended the English teacher for conceptualizing such a nurturing exercise. Beyond merely sharpening writing skills, the activity succeeded in fostering a deep sense of empathy and gratitude among the learners. Ultimately, "Letters from the Heart" stood out as a flawless blend of language learning and emotional connection, leaving a lasting, beautiful imprint on the hearts of both the students and their parents.
