From Meditation to Hip-Hop Backflips: Grade 1 Celebrates the Power of Imagination & Play!

The morning sun brought a wave of pure magic to GIIS Ahmedabad as our youngest learners took centre stage. The Grade 1 Morning Shift assembly, brilliantly presented by the talented students of Grade 1A, turned the multi-purpose Hall into a vibrant canvas of creativity. The theme of the assembly was centred around "The Power of Imagination & Play." Our artistic performers reminded everyone in attendance of the simple, irreplaceable joy of being a child. The event began with a quiet, grounding moment. Before the excitement unfolded, one teacher guided the entire hall through a soothing breathing exercise and meditation session, highlighting the importance of starting the day with a mindful, focused spirit. As the calm faded, an energetic spark took over. A young child confidently stepped up to the microphone and delivered a flawless English song without a single fumble or mistake. His performance set an inviting tone for the morning, encouraging his peers to sing along and ensuring that every mind in the room was fully awake and present.Following this musical boost, two charming and confident student anchors officially welcomed the audience, sharing a powerful thought on how imagination fuels childhood growth. The stage then came alive with a graceful dance performance. Blending classical elegance with a contemporary touch, the young dancers dedicated their poised movements to the gods and goddesses, filling the hall with a serene, divine energy. But the heart of the assembly lay in its storytelling. Through a thought-provoking skit, the children explored how imagination shapes our daily lives. It transitioned into a hilarious act called "My Toybox," where students dressed up in colourful toy attire. Through their playful performance, they delivered a meaningful message about how toy designers use their own creativity to invent toys that, in turn, stretch and broaden a child's own imagination.Just when the audience thought the morning could not get any livelier, the energetic beats of hip-hop took over. The Grade 1 dancers delivered an absolutely jaw-dropping performance, showcasing stunning athletic moves, incredible flexibility, and even impressive backflips. Their electrifying energy got the entire audience grooving in their seats.Closing the wonderful morning, our Principal, Mr. Caesar D'Silva, shared his heartfelt appreciation for the young performers, admitting he was stunned by their athletic talents and backflips. He urged the children to enjoy this golden childhood phase and to live it to the absolute fullest. He reminded them that this precious time of play and wonder won't come back

Trading Blue Screens for Real Smiles: Inside Grade 5E's Powerful Morning Assembly

How much time do we spend looking at a digital screen instead of interacting with each other? This was a deep-thinking and eye-opening question that echoed through the Multi-Purpose Hall at GIIS Ahmedabad. Our Grade 5E students took over the morning assembly to present a powerful, highly creative programme themed around World Doctors' Day and SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. Titled "Digital Mirror – Who Am I Without a Screen?", the assembly was a moving reminder for students, teachers, and parents alike to step back from the digital world and embrace real life. The morning began with an uplifting, inspirational song that instantly filled the room with positive energy and brought everyone into the moment. Following this, our Coordinator, Ms Anila, shared some beautiful thoughts on the value of time, setting a meaningful tone for the day.Standing confidently at the centre of it all was our student anchor, Harshita Choudhary. Watching her host the entire event with a bright smile was the ultimate proof of how GIIS nurtures real-world confidence in every child. The students proceeded to the morning prayer, after which they shared striking facts and global news headlines about how deeply digital screens have taken over our daily routines. As the assembly progressed, the Grade 5E students used their creative talents to share their take-home message. They performed a hilarious yet educational skit about the health effects of "blue screens" and the massive benefits of taking a regular digital detox. This was followed by a silent mime that showed how screen addiction silently deteriorates our physical and mental health. They also offered simple everyday solutions to break the habit. The energy shifted to a lively ambience as the students rolled out a lively Nukkad Natak (street play). They contrasted the joy of old-school playground games with the isolation of mobile gaming. To round out the performance, a powerful dance piece illustrated how true "me-time" and family bonding are fading away into social media apps.Closing the event, Vice Principal Ms Ruchika Dhingra urged students to trade screen time for healthy hobbies like swimming, cycling, jogging, and reading. Our principal, Mr Caesar D’Silva, then shared his words of wisdom, explaining how real-world play builds true friendships, teamwork, and mental strength. Both encouraged students to find new activities to help them stay active after school. They also asked the children to make a list of offline interests and plan their daily schedules around them to naturally reduce digital habits. The inspiring morning concluded on a proud note as our Principal and Vice Principal felicitated our talented Grade 5 Olympiad medal winners. It is a perfect reminder that when children find balance, they truly thrive in every aspect of life

Lessons Beyond Textbooks: Grade 3 Discovers the Power of Spoken Words and Self-Love!

Can a simple tube of toothpaste change the way an eight-year-old navigates the playground? At GIIS Ahmedabad, we believe the most meaningful academic lessons often happen outside the textbook, rooted deeply in emotional intelligence. Recently, we conducted a thoughtful session for our Grade 3 students. We transformed abstract values into hands-on experiences, culminating in a powerful moment where every student proudly pledged to step up as a certified Kindness Champion. The highlight of the morning came when educators brought out a simple tube of toothpaste for a live demonstration. Students watched intently as the paste was squeezed out completely onto a tray, and then received a seemingly simple challenge: put it all back inside the tube. As the children tried and laughed at this impossible task, a crucial life lesson clicked instantly. Mean words, sharp tones, or physical reactions- all these negative emotions mirrored that messy toothpaste. Once they leave us, they leave a lasting mark on someone else’s heart, and no amount of regret can pull them back entirely. This powerful visual gave our young learners an immediate, real-world understanding of emotional responsibility. However, true empathy does not just look outward; it must also look inward. In today’s era, young children easily become their own harshest critics over a missed answer, constructive feedback, and even the slightest failure. Hence, our educators shifted the spotlight to self-compassion. We taught our students to wear an invisible Kindness Shield, a mental tool designed specifically to deflect harsh self-criticism. We guided the children to realise that making mistakes is not a sign of failure; it is a natural blueprint for growing smarter. By teaching them to speak to themselves with the same warmth and gentleness they would offer a best friend on a bad day, the session handed them a shield to protect their fragile self-esteem.Our brand-new Kindness Champions walked out of the hall with a completely fresh perspective on how their daily choices ripple through the classroom. Raising a truly resilient, empathetic generation takes a village, and school is only the starting point. We encourage our incredible parent community to keep this essential life lesson alive at home. By consistently celebrating small acts of heart just as much as we praise high grades, we can ensure our children lift others, protect their own joy, and stay fiercely proud of exactly who they are.

At GIIS Nagpur, Chrysanthemum House turns spotlight on Clean Water and Sanitation

Instead of just reading about facts on clean water and sanitation, Chrysanthemum House at GIIS, Lava, Nagpur took a different route. The house took over the assembly stage — not for a routine address, but for a special session built entirely around one theme: Clean Water and Sanitation. The purpose was clear from the outset — to raise awareness about why clean water and proper sanitation matter, and to push students beyond passive awareness into sustainable practice. What followed was less of a presentation and more of a performance, organised with visible enthusiasm and a great take on this urgent issue. The centrepiece was a skit, and it did the heavy lifting most assemblies leave to a slideshow. Rather than reciting statistics about water scarcity and poor sanitation, the students staged them — turning an abstract crisis into something the audience could see and feel in real time. The traditional water vessels, the everyday habits, the visible contrast between scarcity and waste: these weren't set dressing, they were the argument. The performance built its case not through data, but through image and gesture, making the case for responsible water usage and collective action without needing to spell it out in bullet points.Speeches followed, and this is where the theme moved from performance to conviction. Students spoke on water conservation, sanitation, and — pointedly — the role young citizens have in shaping a sustainable future. These weren't recycled talking points; the ideas were framed as something the students themselves are responsible for carrying forward, not just problems for someone else, someday, to solve.Backing all of it was a PowerPoint presentation the students had built themselves, laying out key facts, practical solutions, and the broader global stakes of the water and sanitation crisis. The confidence and creativity behind the slides did as much work as the content itself — proof that the students hadn't simply repeated information they'd been handed, but had engaged with it enough to explain it clearly to others. The other students in the audience resonated with the presentation because it never asked them to memorise a fact for a test. It asked them to notice — the next tap left running, the next drop taken for granted, the next choice that seems small until it isn't. It would have been easy for Chrysanthemum House to reduce a theme like this to a fact sheet — percentages, disease burden, numbers on a slide, delivered and forgotten by lunchtime. They didn't take the easy route. They paired the numbers with a story, and a story is harder to forget than a statistic. The skit gave the issue a face; the speeches gave it a stake; the presentation gave it substance. Together, the three built something more persuasive than any single format could have managed alone. The special assembly was a remarkable success, reflecting the teamwork, commitment, and enthusiasm of the students of Chrysanthemum House. It left the audience inspired with a simple but powerful message: every drop counts, and every action matters in building a cleaner, healthier, more sustainable world.

Relationship with nature is one of the most essential life lessons a child can learn. To bring this value to life, the GIIS Ahmedabad Multi-Purpose Hall turned into a vibrant green space. Our young students from Grade 2C AS hosted a beautiful morning assembly dedicated to Van Mahotsav, India’s annual tree-planting festival. The assembly opened with a thoughtful message from our young speakers, who confidently explained why trees are truly the “lungs of the Earth.” Using simple words and relatable examples, these Grade 2 students reminded the audience that forests silently work every day to provide us with clean air, water, shade, and shelter. Watching such young children speak with such clarity and confidence is a testament to how our public speaking initiatives help even our youngest students find their voice on stage. The emotional heart of the morning was a touching skit titled "A Tree’s Story." Through simple dialogues and innocent expressions, the young actors traced the beautiful journey of a tree, from a tiny seed resting in the soil to a massive, sheltering giant. The performance brought smiles to everyone's faces while delivering a profound, undeniable truth: if we save trees, trees will save us. By using drama to teach conservation, our students learned to empathise with nature, turning an ordinary school lesson into a lifelong value. The creative energy continued as the entire cohort of Grade 2C AS stood together to perform the song, “Plant, Learn, Pledge.” The hall echoed with their joyful voices as they sang about planting saplings, conserving water, and keeping the Earth clean. This was followed by a graceful dance performance where students, dressed in earthy green outfits, celebrated the beauty of leaves, rivers, birds, and sunshine through their energetic movements. The most powerful moment of the day came at the very end with the Green Pledge. Students, teachers, and parents stood in unison and raised their hands to promise to plant trees, save water, conserve electricity, and protect the planet. At GIIS, this collective pledge represents our broader educational philosophy. We aren't just teaching children to pass exams; we are partnering with families to raise a mindful, responsible generation that actively works to grow a better, greener tomorrow

The hallways of the Cambridge Department were buzzing with vibrant energy on the 28th and 29th of May 2026 as students from Year 1 through Year 10 came together to celebrate International Language Week. Transforming regular classrooms into hubs of global culture, the two-day event was designed to spark a genuine appreciation for multilingualism, build communication skills, and nurture the confidence students need to thrive as global citizens. This annual celebration carries a purpose that extends far beyond the classroom walls. By immersing students in diverse linguistic traditions, the event directly supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It champions Quality Education (SDG 4) by creating interactive, inclusive environments where students can sharpen their listening and presentation skills. It also advances Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10) and Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (SDG 16) by fostering deep mutual respect, cultural understanding, and equal opportunities for every student, regardless of their background. Of course, none of this would be possible without the incredible teamwork of teachers, coordinators, and students working hand-in-hand, embodying the spirit of Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).Throughout the week, each language department brought something unique to the table, tailoring activities to challenge and inspire different age groups. The Hindi Department offered a diverse mix of cultural and academic challenges. Younger learners in Years 1 to 5 focused on the fundamentals, participating in lively speaking and handwriting activities that helped refine their pronunciation and vocabulary. Moving up to Years 7 and 10, the focus shifted to analytical skills with listening comprehension exercises designed to sharpen concentration. Meanwhile, Year 8 students took on a creative research project, building detailed charts and models to present the history of the India Gate, while Year 9 students took center stage in a public-speaking Show and Tell activity. In the Malay Department, the emphasis was on practical communication and fine motor skills. Primary students from Years 1 to 6 dedicated time to mastering the flow and neatness of the language through targeted handwriting sessions. For the older students in Years 7 to 10, the focus was entirely verbal, engaging in dynamic speaking activities that pushed them to build fluency, conversational confidence, and effective expression. The French and Tamil departments added their own distinct flair to the festivities. The French Department turned language learning into a game with interactive puzzles and vocabulary challenges that kept students engaged and problem-solving in real-time. Over in the Tamil Department, a comprehensive program for Years 1 to 9 blended both speaking and writing exercises, giving students a well-rounded platform to showcase their creativity, proper pronunciation, and written expression.International Language Week 2026 proved to be an overwhelming success, leaving the school community with a renewed sense of joy and a deeper connection to the world around them. The Cambridge Language Department extends its heartfelt gratitude to all the dedicated teachers, coordinators, supportive judges, and enthusiastic students who brought their energy and passion to this memorable event.

The GIIS KL Auditorium buzzed with creativity and forward-thinking energy on Thursday, 11th June 2026, as the school community gathered for the ICT Day Makers Fair. This school-wide exhibition brought together a vibrant community of students from Years 1 to 9, alongside teachers, proud parents, and guests. The event served as a dynamic platform for young minds to showcase an impressive array of digital creations, games, animations, robotics models, short films, app concepts, and interactive coding activities. The primary objective of the fair was to give students a meaningful opportunity to demonstrate their digital literacy, creativity, problem-solving, and presentation skills. By engaging in project-based learning, the participants explored how modern technology can be harnessed to solve real-world challenges, all while building their personal confidence, teamwork, and leadership abilities. Central to this mission was a deep dive into global citizenship, where students investigated and proposed technological solutions for the first nine United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), spanning critical global challenges from poverty, hunger, and health to quality education, gender equality, clean water, renewable energy, and economic growth.Across the exhibition floor, the sheer variety of technical skills on display from each year group was remarkable. The youngest tech-enthusiasts in Year 1 started strong by designing and building physical robot models, while Year 2 students demonstrated their design skills through vivid digital posters illustrating future technologies. Creative storytelling took center stage with Year 3 students, who developed original digital comic strips, and Year 4 students, who proposed innovative app concepts brought to life through detailed posters and app mock-ups.As visitors moved through the auditorium, the projects leaned heavily into interactive software and game design. Year 5 students utilized Scratch to code original games and animations, while Year 6 students showcased their technical range by creating both 3D models and interactive Scratch games. The secondary students took the fair's interactivity and multimedia presentation to the next level. Year 7 students organized and ran a series of hands-on, ICT-based activities, live simulations, and coding challenges for the visitors to try. Meanwhile, Year 8 students engineered complex technology projects, simulations, and digital solutions focused on entrepreneurship and innovation. Finally, the senior-most participants in Year 9 brought visual storytelling to life, producing and premiering a selection of short films that highlighted their advanced photography, video editing, and creative scripting skills.Ultimately, the ICT Day Makers Fair 2026 proved to be an inspiring celebration of responsible innovation. It successfully demonstrated to the wider school community that when technical skills are paired with critical thinking, the next generation is fully equipped to propose bright ideas for a better world.
