THINKING THURSDAYs are not Ordinary Thursdays

Every month, one Thursday comes with its objectivity different from others. It comes with its own wisdom and curiosity. Thinking Thursday seems like a favourite to kids. This is not only a day filled with fun and amazement, but it surely has new learnings, something never seen before for the students. On Thinking Thursdays, teachers try their best and go the extra mile to give teachings to their students beyond books. Students see what they study in real life, and enjoy experimenting, gaining first hand experiences of something so astonishing yet simple.

Thinking Thursadays have different themes and different experiments, something that students haven’t read or studied about. And performing these activities gets their minds to run its horses. They seek, they question, they get real with their objectivity and look out for the purpose.

The November Thinking Thursday was nothing short of curiosity as well. For pr primary, a Stam experiment was organized. It started with simple questions like Do you want to see magic? Have you seen invisible ink? Do you want to play a SPY game? Teachers introduced supplies to the students, like, a bowl, baking soda, turmeric and some q tips. On doing the experiment, children were asked about what might happen if we mix it, until then they were told to draw pictures on the paper and later we all would see what might occur if we put the solution on their drawings. It ignited a conversation among students and they were directed to think the other way. Some even guessed that ph of turmeric would make the paper change its color.

Grade I on the other hand, had ‘Rainbow Clouds’. They learnt the whole process of cloud formation, how tiny droplets get collected in there and finally the cloud becomes so heavy that it rains. The objective of the activity was to develop the thinking and cognitive skills of the children and learn the concept that rain comes from clouds.

Whereas for grade II, they learned Anagrams. Anagrams are words that are created by rearranging the letters of the original word. Students were assigned words and were facilitated to create new words from them. It was a challenging brain-teaser for the students wherein they had to unscramble the letters and rearrange them to form new words. This activity enabled the students to enhance their vocabulary skills. Such fun learning activities create a conducive learning environment for students which results in outstanding learning outcomes.

The young age is the perfect age to introduce new things which make them ponder on how things work, and make them question. To conclude- Here is a thought “ STEAM is so important because it ignites the imagination and sets the soul on fire. It allows the students to create endless ideas and it allows students to explore the world through their fingertips! The possibilities that it provides for learning are limitless!
