As part of a regular Thinking Thursday activity, the little wonder of GIIS Smart Campus Hadapsar learned the science behind shadow formation through a thoughtful hands-on activity which was organised by the Pre-primary teachers of the school. To make this concept easy to understand for the kids in a fun learning way, the little munchkins of Kindergarten were asked to make “Shadow Art Drawing”.
The students were demonstrated about what is a shadow and how the shadows are created or formed. Specially the kids are always curious to know the science behind the shadows. For them shadows are always a playful thing.
To tickle their minds, the teachers asked them to bring along various objects like fruits, toys, blocks, play animals, etc, and a source of light (sunlight / a flashlight / a candle). They were asked to place the objects in front of the light source and observe what happens. As soon as they performed the activity, the shadows appeared making the kids very excited for it. On removing the objects, the shadow disappeared making the kids wonder where did the shadow go? One could see the eagerness on their faces by watching this magical and captivating experience. This activity taught the little minds about the phenomenon of shadows by a simple concept of blocking the light by an object which casts a dark figure upon the surface.
Later they traced the shadows and did pencil shading to give their drawings a shadow effect. With a pinch of fun element added to the learning, teachers of Kindergarten made our little munchkins learn about the concept of shadows. Kids had lots of fun creating images. Exploring new things and creativity always bring happiness to their little faces.
