Kindergarteners of GIIS Smart Campus Hadapsar learn about density

To harness the power of curiosity and give students the taste of sciences, the Pre – Primary department of GIIS Smart Campus Hadapsar came together to set up a super fun Density Activity for the tiny tots of kindergarten.

To start the experiment, teachers helped the little munchkins to differentiate between light and heavy objects through a story. Later through a game, the teachers demonstrated the activity by holding one item at a time and asked the students to show a thumbs up if the object will float and thumbs down if the object will sink in water.

This encouraged the kids to learn about making predictions and observations during scientific experiments in their ways.

The kids were encouraged to perform the activity by themselves with the help of parents by using various toys and other household objects.

The motive behind this activity was to tickle the minds of the tiny tots and make them learn that heavy objects (dense) sink and light objects (buoyant) float in water.

The children were excited a lot as they took part in the activity with great interest. Their curiosity about the floating different objects in water increased as the activity progressed.

The activity which witnessed a lot of enthusiasm brought a surprised and excited look on the faces of the little munchkins, that they loved repeating this activity over and over again.

Seeing their kids so excited about the experiment and taking part actively, the parents were content and appreciated the fact that the students are getting a practical experience of what they are learning.

The parents were happy that proper focus is given to teaching the little ones about things they observe and things they do in everyday life. Parents were also happy with the fact that the students are given proper explanations and perspectives to all their questions.

Science is a practical and social endeavour, involving the development and use of a range of skills. During science activities, children’s observation may challenge their previous expectations, leading children to wonder and develop an interest in continuing their investigations.

Science doesn’t have to be complicated. The principles of science, including exploration, testing and discovery all come naturally to pre-schoolers.
