Kindergarteners of GIIS Hadapsar celebrate Sensory Week

The tiny tots of GIIS Smart Campus Hadapsar learned about five basic human senses: touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste as part of the Sensory Week which concluded on 22nd July 2022.

The sensory organs associated with each sense send information to the brain to help us understand and perceive the world around us.

The teachers of the kindergarteners explained to the kids about the five senses: eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin and how important they are in our daily life. They also explained that they are the only means by which we may comprehend our surroundings with the help of simple activities, songs, pictures and objects.

Day 1 (Sense of Touch) with the help of a touch board, the teachers made kids explore the sense of feel by touching different textured materials like smooth surfaces, rough surfaces, pricky surfaces, bouncy surfaces and soft surfaces. The kids learned that it is the skin which helps us to feel things.

Day 2 (Sense of Sight) With the memory game, the teachers explained to the kids about the sense of seeing. They learned that eyes help us to see the beautiful things around us.

Day 3 (Sense of Taste and Smell) The teachers helped the children explore the different tastes like Sweet, Sour, Bitter & Salty with the Apple Taste Test. It was interesting to see the facial expressions of the kids while tasting. The apples were dipped in different solutions. The kids learned that it is the tongue which tells the taste. The kids also learned that it is the nose that helps to differentiate between good and bad smells and helps in breathing. Kids enjoyed exploring different smells of various materials like cinnamon, Dettol, perfume, talcum powder, coffee and lemon through smelling jars.

Day 4 (Sense of Hearing) With the help of sound boxes, the kids learned that ears help them to differentiate between different sounds, whether it is a hard or a soft sound.

Day 5 (Gallery Walk) At the end of the week, teachers of kindergarten took the kids on a Five Senses gallery walk, where the kids enjoyed exploring different materials that charged their five senses.

These activities helped the kids in getting hands-on experience in understanding the sense organs and how each of them has an important role in one’s life.

All the students loved exploring new things each day of the Sensory Week.
