Kindergarteners at GIIS Hadapsar were introduced to coding

Learning to code at an early age is a wonderful chance for kids to enhance their thinking and problem-solving skills. It also helps them to become more familiar with the latest technology by using their ability to bring their imagination to life.

Coding is the new literacy. It involves the process of creating step-by-step instructions, a computer understands and needs for its programs to work.

Coding for kids, which is rapidly growing in popularity has witnessed many children start learning the skill. The kindergarteners at GIIS Hadapsar have kept up the pace and have been involved in a series of precoding activities which are sequencing and debugging.

Sequences are the main logical structure of algorithms or programs. When creating algorithms or programs, the instructions are presented in a specific correct order. A series of activities were carried out to help the children understand the concept of sequencing objects in a specific order/pattern.

In the first activity, the little ones learnt the process by sequencing objects like fruits, vegetables, crayons, spoons in the same order.

The second activity involved, sequencing of day-to-day activities using flashcards wherein children are explained about steps involved in different real-time activities such as steps in preparing a bread sandwich using flashcard arrangement.

The third activity included rhyme sequencing using flashcards where children can relate to the rhymes and arrange the flashcards as per the sequence.

The fourth activity was story sequencing using flashcards where children can relate to the rhymes and arrange the flashcards as per the sequence.

Talking about debugging activities which simply means finding out the error, is used by programmers to find out the error and rectify those errors to run the program successfully.

The first activity involved debugging using flashcards in which the children can identify the different and irrelevant ones from the group of pictures.

The second debugging activity was done using real-time objects in which the children can identify the object which is different from the same kind of objects and remove it from the group like a banana is different in a group of vegetables.

The activities helped the little ones get an idea of coding through items which we use in our daily lives. Through different pre-coding activities like games and puzzles, the children learnt and understood the basic concepts of coding in a much efficient way.
