Bouquet of activities conducted to enhance language skills during the Reading Month

The Reading Month was celebrated at the Global Indian International School (GIIS), Smart Campus Hadapsar throughout the month of April.

The key objective behind this celebration was all about conducting a bouquet of activities that could lead to a better understanding of the language and skills.

Reading is an important part of our lives and shapes our personality and influences our mental development. Reading is indeed a basic, yet very complex skill each learner must possess. It is an integral part of each lesson no matter what subject it is. Improving children’s reading abilities poses a challenge to us amidst the fast-changing society we are in today. To help children find their way back to the love for reading and in order to promote and develop such a skill, we at GIIS, make sure that our future citizens should get an opportunity to develop their reading abilities.

During the Reading Month, students of grades 1 to 9 participated in the storytelling, make and enact, and group/ individual activities to demonstrate their listening, speaking, writing, and reading skills. These activities further helped students to improve their reading skills, enhance their creativity, improve their dialogue delivery skills, creative writing as well as vocabulary skills.

Ensuring it is done efficiently, the teachers prepared various reading activities that were made available to all the students during the online class. The activities were scheduled according to the grade level without disruption of the classes. Storytelling sessions proved to be the most loved class-reading activity.

During the virtual class, students described a character from the preferred book and they also read and drew pictures from it. Though the month came to an end but not the reading and reading capabilities hence it helped students to gain more knowledge and they got to expose themselves to new information and gain more knowledge.

Not just that, these activities further helped students in knowing more about different genres of poetry, instilled in them a love for the poem, and enhanced their understanding of it through the medium of art.
