Riya Mukherjee, a Grade 5B student of Global Indian International School (GIIS), Smart Campus Balewadi secured 7th Rank in the National Coding Olympiad Junior (NCO Jr.) conducted by Wissenaire IIT Bhubaneshwar in collaboration with Super Teacher Team.

The objective behind conducting this Olympiad was to find out the gems among the coders from schools across India and to encourage their coding skills. This Olympiad was conducted in two levels. The first level was based on logical skills and reasoning, during which they were given a week-long training by world-class coders, post which they appeared for Level 2, where they had to meet the deadline and design their coding programme.

The young aspiring coders were judged on various aspects like Project Idea, Innovation, User-friendly Code, Design, Creativity, Accuracy of the Programme, Usability, and Clarity.

The top 100 finalists who performed extraordinarily well at the NCO Jr. received participation e-certificates and scholarships on 18th April 2021 in a special prize distribution event, which was organised by IIT Bhubaneswar on the virtual platform.

Commenting on this feat, Dr. N.K.P Ashok Raj, Principal GIIS Balewadi congratulated Riya and all the participants for their exemplary performance. He further said, “National Coding Olympiad by IIT Bhubaneshwar and Super Teacher is an amazing platform for the students to test their coding skills and learn more from the professional coders. Imparting such skills to the future coders is the need of the hour and through this Olympiad, students did get a chance to showcase their talent amidst these unprecedented times.”
