International Yoga Day celebrated with theme ‘Yoga for Well-being’ to promote mental health and overall well-being

The International Yoga Day was celebrated virtually on 21st June 2021 at Global Indian International School (GIIS) Smart Campus Balewadi. The students and parents showed great enthusiasm and thoroughly enjoyed doing Yoga asanas during the special session which was organised early in the morning. This year, the theme was “Yoga for Well-being.”

This year on yoga day, teachers have also given special invitations to parents to participate along with their wards. On the International day of yoga, the students got the chance to know how yoga embodies unity of mind and body, and was also explained in brief about the yoga postures and necessary rules and regulations prior to the event.

The students from class Nursery to Grade 11 performed yoga along with their parents and respective class teachers in the morning and showcased their yoga posture in a unique way. Some of the students did exceptionally well and they got selected by the sports teachers to perform and lead the yoga posture during the session.

Commenting on the occasion, Dr. N.K.P Ashok Raj, Principal GIIS Balewadi addressed all the participants and said, “Today’s modern lifestyle brings with itself tremendous pressure amongst students to outperform and stay ahead in the competition, which usually takes a toll on the children’s overall health. Therefore, GIIS endeavours to develop students holistically under its 9Gem framework and encourages students to practice and promote Yoga in their day-to-day life, with the belief that Yoga has the power to boost learning, increase concentration and release stress. The school ensures students undertake meditation sessions to boost fitness and routine practice to be followed.”

During the event, the participants were made to perform different yoga postures such as SuryaNamaskar, Warrior Pose, Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Trikonasana, Vajrasana, ArdhaUstrasana, Bhujangasana, Dhanurasana, Pavanamuktasana and Savasana. The event concluded with Pranayama, meditation, and showcasing a video montage about what yoga is.
