Earth Day observed at GIIS Balewadi; Students pledge to protect Mother Earth

The Pre-Primary students of Global Indian International School (GIIS), Smart Campus Balewadi observed earth day on 22nd, April 2021 by respecting and appreciating nature in many different ways.

At the onset of the special virtual class, all the students took Green Oath along with their teacher and pledged to become global citizens and work for the noble cause of sustainable development. The theme of the day was to "safeguard nature by saving the trees and natural habitat."

The key concept of the ozone layer was also explained to the students through pictorial representations and handwritten details through PowerPoint presentation. They were also taught about the importance of the ozone layer and how it shields us from the harmful ultraviolet radiation of the sun directly reaching the earth.

Teachers and students took special care to ensure that there is minimum wastage of resource while conducting a myriad of activities such as hand-printing, which was specially organised for Nursery kids, whereas K1 and K2 students enjoyed making pots along with the bird feeder with the help of egg carton and plastic bottles. Students were also made to understand the disadvantages of these plastic bottles and its adverse impact on the environment. The young minds were also motivated and encouraged to preserve the nature that is continuously deteriorating due to the rapid misuse of plastics and deforestation. Meanwhile, the tiny tots from the nursery were assigned several engaging activities to sensitize them with their roles as responsible individuals and work towards safeguarding the available resources for the upcoming generation by using it generously today.

Lastly, the students participated actively in the restoration process of the earth's activities by planting more and more trees and also encouraged others so that they would always take good care of natural habitats and nature. It was indeed a wonderful day for the little munchkins as they learned several ways to protect the mother earth.
