Students exhibit innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship skills at RWCC 2022

GIIS Whitefield earned a magnificent triumph emerging as the overall champions at the 11th Real World Challenges Convention (RWCC), held at the GIIS SMART Campus, Singapore on November 30 and December 1, 2022. GIIS Tokyo, Japan, and GIIS East Coast Campus, Singapore showcased their prowess as well and won the runners-up title. GIIS SMART Campus, in its capacity as host, did not compete for the overall championship this time. In the RWCC Sports Challenge, GIIS SMART Campus, Singapore emerged as the overall champions while Regent International School, Klang, Malaysia secured the runner-up position.

The GIIS Real World Challenges Convention is a unique platform that encourages students to network with a host of people and problems, research on their chosen topics, find solutions, and present the processes while competing in various competitions. The theme for this year’s RWCC was GAIA 4 Gaia - Green And Innovative Alternatives for Earth, embracing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and every competition had a theme based on one of the UN SDGs. RWCC Sports Challenge was included in the RWCC for the first time this year under SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being.

The convention was open to students of all age groups starting from KG to Grade 12 representing schools including; GIIS Abu Dhabi, GIIS Dubai, GIIS Ahmedabad, GIIS Balewadi, GIIS Whitefield, GIIS Bannerghatta, GIIS East Coast, GIIS Hadapsar, GIIS Kuala Lumpur, GIIS Noida, GIIS SMART Campus, GIIS Tokyo, One World International School, Singapore, Regent International School, Klang, Regent International School, Kedah, Dwight School Seoul, Korea and NPS International School, Singapore. It was also open to parents, teachers, and academic leaders.

This year, over 900 participants representing 17 GIIS campuses from across the world took part in various challenges. About 75 students had travelled to Singapore from India, Japan, and Malaysia to take part in the Student Conference, Quality Circle Presentations, Transformation Turncoat, and the sports challenge all of which were held physically at the campus after 2 years of virtual events. A pioneer member of the Global Schools Foundation, Mr Kaustubh Bodhankar graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

Participation in the RWCC 2022 was an experiential learning opportunity for the participants as they got to explore and exhibit their creativity, innovation, ingenuity, and aptitude while learning from others. It was an overwhelming experience for the teachers to see the immense confidence and talent displayed by the participants. The success of the GIIS students in the RWCC 2022 exemplifies how the school empowers its students with 21st-century skills to help them become responsible, global citizens of tomorrow.
