GIIS SMART Campus participated in the community project - Community in Play and Action @ Raintree Cove in March 2019, where the students used their artistic skills for a group activity that aimed at the goodness of community.
GIIS was one of the nine schools that were invited to participate in this community project organised at the East Coast Park by NParks.
Six students from Primary and Secondary sections collaborated on this project. The names of the students are - Sahitya Pettugani, Anushka Patua, Kimaya Telang, T.J.Kannan, Tanya Grace, Tran Duy Anh. The Teachers-in-charge for the event were Ms Archana Ranade and Ms Shilpa Dingley.
GIIS students got the opportunity to paint the swings in the park on the theme ‘nature’.
They came up with a fusion design, a style of painting based on Indian folk-art form Madhubani, that depicted elements of natural surroundings in South East Asian, for example, Bird of Paradise, Orchids etc. The upper tier of the painting represented the sky, middle tier land and lower tier depicted water.
Guest-of-Honour, for the event was Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, who interacted with the students and admired their creations. GSF board member and avid environmentalist, Ms Kirtida Mekani was also present to show her support for the GIIS students participating in the event.
The Raintree Cove section of the East Coast Park (ECP), that closed down for improvement works, re-opened for public use and NParks organised a community event on the occasion. Raintree Cove offers scenic views of the sea, lounge and open area to relax, or just hang out with friends and family. This stretch of ECP is perfect for those who prefer a tranquil experience at the park. It is also home to the only pavilion with a green roof in East Coast Park.
It was a gratifying experience for the students to use their creativity in beautifying a scenic spot meant for public use. GIIS always encourages the students to work for the community and believes in providing platforms where they can participate in activities pertaining to public service.
