SMART Campus’ Team Sensit wins Company of the Year 2022

GIIS SMART Campus' Team Sensit, consisting of 15 IB Year 1 students, achieved a fantastic feat by winning the Singapore Junior Achievement Company of the Year Competition 2022-23 on January 14, 2023. The competition was held at the Nexus International School, where Team Sensit received two awards for their innovative product, Sensit Qube, a learning aid designed to assist children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) using sensory methods.

Team Sensit, led by Rishabh Manikandan as CEO, Vihaan Hampihalikar as Deputy CEO, Sanjana Mahesh as Head of Public Relations, and Riya Garg as Head of Marketing, won two awards - Champions of the Singapore Junior Achievement Company of the Year Competition and the Young Entrepreneur's Choice Award - after competing against 11 other strong teams. The team will represent Singapore at the Asia Pacific Junior Achievement Company of the Year (JA COY) competitions later this year.

The product has 6 interchangeable tactile patches sold along with a polyfill-stuffed, polyester base cube. The product aims to help children with ASD and ADHD calm down and focus by distracting them from sensory triggers around them.

The annual competition consisted of 5 main stages - the submission of an annual report of the company 6 days prior to the competition, the submission of a commercial video 1 day prior to the competition, a business presentation on the day, a trade fair booth including individual interviews by the 3 judges and finally, an interview with all the judges.

After being selected in July 2022, the team has been arduously preparing for this competition for 6 months. The teacher-in-charge, Ms Sonal Khobragade, along with JA Singapore representative, Ms Marissa Lim, and mentors Ms Maggie Gorse and Ms Ioana Dumea, have closely worked with the students to help bring their vision to reality. Their constant support and guidance have allowed the students to learn and grow throughout the entire process.

The Sensit Team worked closely with Saint Clare School for Special Education, Singapore while researching and developing the product. Selling 48 of 50 units produced, they generated a revenue of S$950 with a profit of S$610 before donating 20% of its profits to Saint Claire School, giving them a Gross Profit Margin of 74%. The company also proved its financial viability to its 75 shareholders by producing a Return on Investment (ROI) of 19%. Additionally, they break even at just 7 units.

The company is divided into 5 dedicated teams - Marketing, Public Relations, Productions, Finance, and Tech.  The team includes; Rishabh Manikandan (Chief Executive Officer), Vihaan Hampihallikar (Deputy Chief Executive Officer), Riya Garg (Vice President of Marketing), Sanjana Mahesh (Vice President of Public Relations), Kushal Gupta (Vice President of Finance), Krish Jethva (Vice President of Productions), Prithiv Harikrishnan (Vice President of Tech), Dikshitha Ganipathiraman (Member of Marketing), Nu Goawala (Member of Marketing), Aleia Bhalla (Member of Public Relations), Nishikaa Muthukrishnan (Member of Finance), Anchita Kharbanda (Member of Productions), Yukthashree Anand (Member of Productions), Riddhi Kulkarni (Member of Tech), and Mihir Raj Aaryan (Member of Marketing).
