GIIS SMART Campus celebrated Language Week by organising numerous engaging activities for the secondary students. The initiative allowed the students to explore their knowledge and sharpen their linguistic skills. 

As part of the celebrations, IGCSE Grade 10 students presented an act from Shakespeare’s romantic comedy - Twelfth Night, and participated in a spoken word poetry competition.

Two creative writing workshops were organised for the senior secondary students conducted by our in-house author and teacher Ms Suchandra Roychowdhury and engineer, storyteller Mr Udayadittya Shome.

The middle school students participated in character dress-up day, presented book reviews on podcasts, and made digital comic strips on their favourite books.

Numerous activities were conducted by different language departments of the school. The Hindi department conducted activities such as sulekh, extempore, kavi sammelan, poster-making activity, and speech writing. Likewise, the students o the French department participated in presentations on French culture, idioms, and quizzes. There were also presentations by students of IGCSE 9 and 10 on French gastronomy, history, and its Education System. The students also participated in quizzes on the topics they presented.

On the other hand, the students from the Tamil department competed against each other by creating beautiful traditional kolam designs. Competitions such as kavithai and katturai allowed the students to showcase their writing skills.

Overall, it was an enriching experience for the students as they got various opportunities to hone and showcase their linguistic skills. Initiatives like this truly exemplify how GIIS fosters its students with diversity and inclusion, and value different languages from around the world.
