SMART Campus PYP students present creative solutions to real-world problems at PYP Exhibition

SMART Campus PYP Grade 5 students exhibited great enthusiasm and confidence as they demostrated their acquired knowledge during the PYP Exhibition held on March 15 and 16. The two-day long event marked the culmination of their final year in the PYP, where they presented their projects on topics based on the central idea of 'Empathy and Perseverance: Building Blocks of the Future' in front of the visitors.

The students collaborated with their classmates to select topics, research, and create action plans to solve core issues related to the central ideas of their topics. They conducted thorough research and gathered inputs by conducting interviews with experts from fields relevant to their topics.

During the exhibition, the students presented their learnings through thoughtfully prepared models, charts, and presentations on topics such as fast fashion, sustainable architecture, impacts of human involvement on ecosystems, animal abuse for medicinal purposes, the benefits of performing arts on social and emotional health, and the impact of art therapy on emotional health and mindfulness. The students also explored topics such as the positive impact of sports, sleep deprivation, cyberbullying, and sustainable transport. Each team also created a website adding more information about their project. They worked closely for months under the guidance of their teachers and mentors, recognised core issues related to their topics, and passionately prepared their action plans for solving them.

The exhibition gave the students an opportunity to showcase their thought-provoking topics and impressed the visitors with their in-depth research skills and creativity. Apart from the students and teachers of the GIIS SMART Campus, there were visitors from notable schools such as Stamford American International School, One World International School, and GIIS East Coast Campus. Additionally, parents of PYP Grade 5 students also attended the event, and left feeling a sense of pride in their children's accomplishments and the valuable experiences they gained.

At the end of the event, the students received certificates for graduating to the secondary level. The Grade 5 homeroom teachers and mentors were also appreciated for their invaluable support and efforts in grooming the students.

Events and platforms like this at GIIS offer students the chance to delve into and contemplate their educational journey through the PYP curriculum. The student-centric approach of the IB PYP programme at GIIS provides a supportive learning environment for the students that helps them to work towards achieving their goals and to become future leaders.
