SMART Campus was filled with splendour, smiles, and sparkling eyes of enthusiastic students as the PYP primary division celebrated its much-awaited Annual Day on Nov 19. As part of the event, students from PYP Grade 1 to 5 showcased their talent by participating in musical skits and dance performances being organised under two shows.
During the first show, the young learners from the PYP Grades 1 to 3 exhibited great zeal and vigour putting up various performances prepared under the theme of Kaleidoscope. The theme was inspired by the idea 'What does it truly mean to celebrate?’ and all performances were prepared in line with it.
The talented students took the audience on a spectacular voyage set in different backdrops including the animal kingdom of Africa to celebrate the circle of life, the lush green Amazon rainforest, where nature's beauty got them closer to the various connotations of the word, celebrate.
The cultural context of Brazil came alive as students of Grade 2 presented how birds, animals, and sports add life to celebrations. The journey continued as the audience explored the multicultural music of the USA that came alive through the beats of jazz and hip-hop. Students of Grade 3 grooved to foot-tapping numbers and rhythmic beats before taking a deep dive into South Korea. It was truly a kaleidoscopic experience for the audience.
The occasion was graced by the presence of Mrs Rupal Arora, an Adjunct Lecturer at the National Institute of Early Childhood (NIEC) in Singapore, an early years’ visionary who has over 20 years of experience managing start-up schools such as Odyssey, Avondale Grammar and many international educational projects.
During the second show, the students from PYP Grade 4 and 5 presented numerous performances under the theme of ‘Festivescape’ showcasing a journey through time. Her Excellency Ms Iwona Piorko, European Union Ambassador to Singapore graced the occasion with her presence.
It was a wonderful amalgamation of talent and creativity as the young students put up a great show with their witty and power-packed performances on migration and childrens’ rights, the vibrant dance performance of Africa, the legendary characters of ‘Mind your Language’ skit, and other foot-tapping dance performances.
Overall, it was a fun-filled day for the students as they got to explore their creative side and exhibit their talents. Opportunities like this at GIIS shows how the school helps its students to grow holistically while partaking in different activities and events.
