Grade 11 and 12 students learnt the principles of designing an effective Curriculum Vitae (CV) and also useful tips to face an interview as part of a workshop that was conducted by Junior Achievement Worldwide, Singapore (JA Singapore) for GIIS students. The online workshop was attended by approximately 100 students across five sessions over a period of three weeks in the month of May.
JA Singapore and Standard Chartered Bank employees together conducted the sessions.
By participating in the educative workshop, students learnt, how to meet the objective of a CV by adding value to it and making it more attention-grabbing. Informative presentations by JA Singapore taught us the do’s and don’ts of CV writing, traditional ways of writing CV VS latest trends and how to preserve the elements of honesty and humility in the resume. Numerous links were shared for reference.
The second part of the workshop was focused on honing the interview skills of the students. Useful tips were shared on the basic pre-requisites of facing an interview. In addition, participants were shown engaging videos of interviews. The JA Singapore representatives shared tips on the correct body language and attire for an interview.
This was followed by training on different types of meetings, including online ones, which holds a lot of importance in the current times. Another interesting tip we learnt was the STAR model for answering situational questions - Situation, Task, Action and Result.=
Once the important tips and tricks were shared by the representatives of JA Singapore, it was time for hands-on training. The participants were divided into two-member teams in virtual breakout rooms with a volunteer from Standard Chartered Bank who reviewed our pre-submitted resumes and gave us constructive feedback. It was really a great experience to interact with the professionals and get their feedback face-to-face.
We also received a lot of useful advice on how to groom ourselves and prepare for work life. They gave us good insights into how mock interviews are conducted at college and companies and also air-brushed our soft-skills, inculcating in us confidence and positive body language.
JA Singapore is a professional organisation that trains students into work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy.
It was a lively and engaging session. Not only did this workshop help us build valuable skills in writing resumes and tackling interviews, but also boosted our confidence while interacting with professionals. Everyone felt that this was a great and productive session that helped us improve our chances of seizing future possibilities.
