By Anbahalath Vajuravel and Aryan Sharma

SINGAPORE, 18 JULY, 2019: GIIS SMART Campus students were captivated by the Leadership Lecture Series with the legendary singer, Mr S P Balasubrahmanyam, who expressed his fondness and love for children and inspired them to work hard. The LLS was conducted on 17th July.

Mr Balasubrahmanyam seemed thrilled to be among students and said: “I am always a child at heart”. He was overwhelmed by the heart-warming welcome received from the students.

The singer charmed the audience by singing a Saraswati Vandana in his melodious voice and received thunderous applause in return.

The great singer shared lessons of hard work and persistence with the students. He recounted his 54 years of valuable experience in the field of music where he worked alongside celebrated singers like Ms Lata Mangeshkar and Mr K J Yesudas. He said that in absence of any formal training, it was his hard work, dedication and discipline that helped him sing along such notable singers. Mr Balasubrahmanyam assured the students that “nothing is impossible when you are sincere”.

He said that even at the age of 73, he continues to learn from those around him and refuses to perform any song that he cannot “do complete justice” to. Mr Balasubrahmanyam conveyed the passion and hard work that fuels him as a singer and at the same time spread the value of humility by saying that people in his profession are just doing another job like others.

Mr S.P. Bala Subrahmanyam has received a number of prestigious awards like Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards South. He was also honoured with a Guinness world record for recording the highest number of film scores.

LLS is regularly conducted by GIIS to allow students to interact with successful pioneers from different fields. The model reiterates the school’s 9GEMS motto that serves as the dynamic framework for students’ development.
