Parents, Punggol residents throng maiden Yoga programme at SMART Campus

The GIIS SMART Campus saw an overwhelming response to a free yoga session organised by GICC in August 2018, the school's cultural arm, with as many as 180 people thronging the event venue to participate in the exercise session.

The two-hour session was conducted by Nikam Guruji Yoga Kutir, a group run by volunteers propagating the art of Yoga, and saw participation from many people of different ethnicities including parents and community members including residents from the Punggol neighbourhood - many of them elderly.

While many pre-registered enthusiasts came to the event, registrations were also done on the spot for walk-in participants. The current cohort were eased into the Yoga exercises by starting off with some breathing exercises, back and shoulder exercises etc.

Over the next three months, the participants will be divided into small groups based on their health profiles, and will be eased into asanas or poses based on their individual capacities.

Yoga kutir volunteers demonstrated basic Yoga postures and breathing exercises. GICC has been conducting similar yoga sessions at various campuses, but the event was held for the first time at the brand new SMART Campus.

"We are thrilled by the enthusiastic response to our health initiative, and look forward to hosting all members of the GIIS and non-GIIS community every weekend," said GIIS chairman Atul Temurnikar.

GICC has been conducting yoga sessions for long, and will continue holding these sessions every Saturday.
