On May 25, GIIS SMART Campus was abuzz with excitement as the legendary Indian cricketer and Padma Bhushan awardee, Mr Kapil Dev, visited the school as part of the Leadership Lecture Series. During his visit, he inspired the students with his remarkable insights on life and sports, engaging in an interactive session with them.

The panel discussion witnessed enthusiastic participation of students representing various schools under Global Schools Foundation, including GIIS Tokyo Campus, GIIS Dubai Campus, One World International School - Nanyang Singapore Campus, and the host campus, GIIS SMART Campus Singapore. They had the opportunity to interact with Mr Kapil Dev, seeking his profound insights on leadership skills, managing multiple roles, the technicalities of the game from the perspectives of bowlers and batsmen, and his perspective on the concept of the 'Greatest Of All Time'.

Mr Kapil Dev emphasised the importance of being aware all the time and shared how his experiences from travels contributed to his performance, surpassing the lessons learned solely from matches and training. Emphasing on how students say studying is pressure he said, “If tomorrow you become a better human being it cannot be pressure, it should be pleasure. The difference is very little. If you take your education as pressure, you will never enjoy it. Take it as fun, education as fun. Because this is the strength you will keep with you for the rest of your life.” He further encouraged the students to approach education with enthusiasm, treating it as a sport. 

Following the panel discussion, the audience, comprising students, also had the opportunity to personally interact with the legendary cricketer, further adding to the excitement of the day. 

Selected students from the Gold Squad Programme of GIIS Singapore campuses also participated in the event as well as students from OWIS Singapore Campus. The students not only gained valuable insights during the session but were also elated to connect with such an eminent personality from the world of sports. They were encouraged to become change-makers, follow their passions, and pursue their desired paths. The discussion fostered heartfelt conversations between the students and the esteemed cricketer.
