How Important is having Insight for our student leaders?

Dear Parents,

We have been talking about the attributes of the word RISE in our past newsletters and today we are going to be focussing on the second attribute of I which stands for Insights.

Having an Insight is an essential attribute for a leader. Leaders need to have a fresh perspective of things and try to discover the underlying motivations that drive people and their actions.

So how does a leader know that he/she has a SIGNIFICANT INSIGHT?

You know you have a powerful insight when it can be recognized to do the following:

  1. It connects with people on an emotional level and elicits the reaction “you obviously understand me.”
  2. It solves a real problem.
  3. It inspires action by giving you a clear target to aim for.
  4. It is a clear statement of what to do next and how to deliver value to your team

You suddenly understand something you’ve understood all your life, but in a new way.” – Doris Lessing, Nobel Prize winner for literature

Related terms that help understand more about the nature of insight include intuition, discernment, perception, awareness, understanding, comprehension, appreciation, penetration, acumen, judgment, acuity, vision, wisdom and revelation. When seemingly unrelated information is combined in our awareness, we see the unseen and have an opportunity to learn something new. And act upon it.

An insightful leader can see through foggy issues that obscure progress. So much so that they appear to have mysteriously found a way to success without having to “figure it out.” They have grasped an instinctive “out of the blue” solution.

Leaders with good insight are learning about people, conditions, situations from their insightfulness. Great leaders have great insight and are, therefore, excellent learners. They also have strong insights and learning about things that they should never do.

They always:

  1. Find solutions that benefit their team and themselves.
  2. Admit their mistakes, learn and improve from them.
  3. Advocate for what they believe in; their vision, new opportunities, success.
  4. Listen to inputs and ideas from the team and others.
  5. Have a keep moving forward kind of attitude
  6. Are humble and give credit to their team and others.
  7. Involve themselves in productive debates and discussions that have a positive outcome
  8. Believe in only the truth
  9. Do not shy away from saying "no" when required.
  10. Strive hard and demonstrate positive attitudes and continuous progress.

As our students continue to grow and progress, we do hope that they do imbibe this important attribute of gaining insights to make their teams better and more productive. (Sources)

Warm Regards!!
