GIIS teachers expand their knowledge and skills through virtual IB Workshop

GIIS recently organised and hosted a virtual IB Workshop, titled “The Role of the Supervisor in the Extended Essay Category 3”, that looked into the various aspects of the extended essay process for IB students.

The workshop was conducted on September 4th and 5th, and was attended by a team of 25 teachers. The sessions were lead by Mr Tanusankar Chakraborty, who is an IB Consultant and CIS Evaluator. He also has various other credits to his name including “co-author of IB Economics textbook”, “Pamoja Educator” as well as “Head of Individuals and Societies at Western Academy of Beijing”.

Mr Chakraborty lead the workshops and covered the various points that must be kept in mind by the extended essay supervisor while guiding and mentoring the students through their essay process. A required component of the IB Diploma Programme, the extended essay in an independent piece of research that the students must present, relating to one of their six chosen subjects. Through the research process, students can develop skills such as formulating appropriate questions, engaging in a personal exploration of the topic as well as coming up with a strong argument.

GIIS has offered the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme since 2005. The school, with over 300 students enrolled in the programme and more than 15 years of experience in offering the diploma, believes in continuous upscaling and training of its faculty in the various diploma courses offered by the school, ensuring that quality education is always imparted to the students.
