GIIS SMART Campus IB PYP teacher to advocate for Global Schools Program

Ms Komal Agarwal, IB PYP teacher at GIIS SMART Campus, has been selected to become an advocate for the Global Schools Program, an initiative of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

The Global Schools Program aims to generate interest about sustainable development in schools to educate and engage students with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The network is composed of 1,000 schools from more than 70 countries around the world.

SDGs are a globally recognised framework, also known as Agenda 2030, divided into 17 goals, agreed to by 193 governments and already adopted by thousands of educational institutions. They aim to end extreme poverty, achieve decent work for all, promote social justice, and protect the natural environment from human-caused harm. The SDGs are an extremely rich teaching resource and offer ways to connect the students to real-world issues.

As an advocate, Ms Komal will contribute towards integrating global and local sustainable development issues into our school curriculum. She will act as an action planner and connector within the school to bring the SDGs, Global Citizenship, and 21st Century Skills within the units of inquiry. She will be considered the expert ‘go to person’, whenever students need one to support their inquiry.

GIIS has always made sure to provide its schools with a perfect blend between lush surroundings, intelligently designed 21st century architecture and green initiatives embedded in its design which balance contemporary ideas with attitude of conservation, ensuring quality education and excellence in all aspects of a student’s life. The IBPYP Programme of Inquiry, provided by GIIS, systematically integrates SDGs into it. Ms Komal’s role as an advocate will substantially enhance the inquiry driven experiences and will provide inspiration for action among the student body.
