GIIS helped during Covid-19

Global Indian International School (GIIS), was recognised and appreciated for its efforts and contributions to the community during the Covid crises at a recently held virtual dinner by the North East Community Development Council (NECDC) Singapore. GIIS is a member of the Global Schools Foundation Singapore.

When the pandemic began, GIIS quickly reached out to the NECDC and extended help to families affected by the pandemic.

At the same time, Global Schools Foundation (GSF) had contributed an amount of S$300k towards community development and welfare funds of Citizens Consultative Committees (CCC) of six constituencies in Singapore during the time of Covid-19 crises, which included the NECDC areas, as part of their initiatives under social responsibility.

At the annual NorthEast CDC meeting 2020, community partners like GIIS were allowed to gather on a common platform to discuss objectives like forwarding plans, sharing of programmes and assistance schemes for residents and on how organisations can work with NECDC on a larger scale.

Acknowledging GIIS’s contribution towards community building, Singapore Minister for Social and Family Development Mr Masagos Zulkifli said, “GIIS is a valued partner in community building. Your contribution has significantly helped the people who are facing much uncertainty during Covid-19 pandemic. GIIS contributions had touched families in need of jobs and welfare assistance during this period.”

Also Appreciating GIIS’s efforts was Member of Parliament (MP) Ms Yeo Wan Ling, Vice-chairman of NECDC, said “We are deeply appreciative of GIIS’s contributions and efforts to help the Punggol shore community. And it’s also something that we have been sharing with our community leaders as well,” she added.

GIIS’s donation was raised by the school and helped by its teachers and staff, which comes at a time when Covid-19 has severely impacted the poor and the low-income segment, particularly those who may have lost their jobs or income as a result of this crisis.

As part of #GIIS-United & #OWIS-United, Global Schools Foundation (GSF) donated to the six community organisations including “Joo Chiat CCC Community Development Welfare Fund”, “Buona Vista CCC Community Development And Welfare Fund”, “Punggol North Community  CCC Community Development And Welfare Fund”, “Tampines CCC Community Development And Welfare Fund” and others. GSF has donated S$50k to each of the above CCC’s Citizen Development Welfare Fund (CDWF) which will go towards helping the needy or the most distressed through food vouchers, and other social means.
