Earth Day 2021 was celebrated on the 22nd of April 2021 by the primary students of GIIS SMART Campus. Because of the pandemic, the celebration was conducted virtually. A plethora of activities was held for grades 1-5 to create awareness about the Green Earth Revolution. They were taught the importance of going green and creating a sustainable environment.
The young minds showed a lot of creativity and artistic skills to their work. From wonderful chart drawings to creating art from waste materials, the students showed a lot of enthusiasm and zest during the celebration.
Grades 1 and 2 celebrated this day during their house activity period. They created beautiful paper representations of two hands gently cupped around the Earth. They also explored small but significant steps towards achieving a better and greener future.
Grade 3 students were given lots of items, some of which were eco-friendly while others were harmful to our environment and our planet. Their activity was to examine the different items and sort the eco-friendly ones from the harmful ones. Through this activity, they also learnt different ways to prevent any further damage that can be caused by individuals.
Grade 4 students showed great interest in environmental management. These young leaders brainstormed ideas and designed a representation of how their houses could be further corrected to be made more eco-friendly.
Grade 5 students presented a beautiful virtual assembly where students performed a short skit showing the evolution of the Earth and how modern human beings came to be. They showed how beautiful the Earth was earlier with a healthy nature and lots of animals and now how humans are responsible for all the pollution and degeneration of the planet. The students also got to hear Ms Ritishka Grover speak on a greener and cleaner future and conserving nature.
