Another feather in cap for young chess master Nivaan Khandhadia

Another proud victory for the youngest rated chess player, Nivaan Khandhadia, as he won the first prize in Boys U8 category at the Singapore National Blitz Chess Championships 2019, held on 27th July. Nivaan is a Grade 2 student of GIIS SMART Campus.

The open tournament was held in Bukit Merah Community Centre and saw participation from 115 players of all age groups of children and adults.

Nivaan was declared National Blitz champion in U08 category after playing 11 rounds with players of all age groups, not limited to children, and scoring a total of 6.5 points from the total rounds which is more than many higher rated players. He received an ELO Blitz rating of 1197.

The 7-year old Nivaan, has set a record of participating in over 500 chess competitions and has earned the title of Candidate Master by World Chess body FIDE. The young chess master has won 46 trophies and 12 medals and has outplayed champions like 30 years old Ranjan Kotian and 44 years old Dwaipayan Basu.
