7th GIIS Annual Sports Day celebrations for grades 1 and 2 promoted health and fitness this year

A bright sunny morning filled with anticipation and excitement marked the seventh annual sports meet for the Grade 1 and 2 students of Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida.

The sports meet was all about colour and imagination as young minds of the campus were geared up to have some fun by participating in various activities and races organized. It was an eventful day that began with releasing of the balloons to declare the meet open and welcoming of the parents by the school principal and guests of honour.

The Chief Guest for the day was “Dr. Arun Kumar Uppal” - ex-vice Chancellor of Jiwaji University, Gwalior and Head of Laxmibai National Institute of Physical Education. He was a well-known sports personality during his school and college days.

The event began with march-past of all the houses with their leaders administered by the school head boy and girl; torch lighting ceremony was also carried out by the eminent school sports enthusiasts to announce the beginning of the races.

This year the annual sports day was themed around “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”. Since Delhi is battling with low air quality index and poor air quality, the activities were weaved around ways of reducing air pollution and its possible solutions.

Beginning with the event, yoga was presented by Grade 2 students to promote a healthy environment. Then the speech was given by the Chief Guest for the day “Dr Arun Kumar Uppal” where he discussed and expressed the importance of physical fitness in student’s academic career. Grade 1 students performed an aerobics drill in white coloured outfits to promote adaptation on the discipline in daily life.

Races like Green Saviors race, clean and green race, oxygen mask race, Army Race, Spider Race, Obstacle race, Buddy Dress up Race, Cleanliness is godliness, rolling ball with a hula hoop, clean up race, Ready for school etc. were carried out by the students.

Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat also promoted a sense of understanding of fit India among the students. Sports days always serve as a platform to interact and bond with parents and give them a chance to be competitive in the sporting spirit of the day. At last certificate distribution to the winners of different races by the chief guest and our principal sir. Prize distribution ceremony and national anthem marked the closure of this year’s annual meet.
