Independence Day celebrations at school calls in for a lot of pomp and show in the campus with every nook and corner decorated with ribbons and posters of our freedom fighters and the Indian National Flag. From students singing patriotic songs to presenting heart-touching performances on the sacrifice of the glorious wars, the campus is usually lit up with the positive and vibrant energy of patriotism. But this year again, due to the pandemic, the 75th Independence day celebrations were conducted digitally to celebrate the occasion with the same fervour and spirit across the segments.
Pre-Primary
Pre - Nursery, K1, and K2 sections observed: “Incredible India Week” that was packed with numerous activities on the theme to sensitize the tiny tots about the rich cultural heritage India beholds. Monuments, national leaders and symbols, the story of India’s independence, cooking tricolor sandwich, etc. were some of the activities that engaged students throughout the week. Lastly, to conclude their celebrations on day five, a special virtual assembly was organized to celebrate the pride and honour of being an Indian. The virtual celebrations were highly appreciated by the parents of the segment.
Grades 1-5
Primary segment had organized a special virtual assembly on Independence day. The synchronized display of creativity and skills by the students despite being in different places was noteworthy. Students from different clubs showcased various presentations as a part of their club presentation. Students from Public speaking, Cooking without fire, Art and Craft, Music and Dance clubs gave a creative dimension to the celebrations by showcasing values through their acts. Parents were also an integral part of the celebrations as they participated by sharing their views on ‘Educational Perspectives incoming 25 years’ in the form of a speech.
Grades 6-12
On the Account of 75th Independence Day, all GIIS campuses across India came together for a Global Student Exchange, 2021. It was a great privilege for GIIS Noida to host this year’s GSE, which was planned with a motive to bring all GIIS India campuses on a common platform, wherein the students of Grade 6 to 8 were asked to create Digital Collage on the theme - India towards Economic and Social Freedom.
Students from three campuses namely GIIS Hadapsar, Whitefield, and Ahmedabad participated wholeheartedly in this event. The virtual event was presided over by Ms. Sunita Jaisingh - National Academic Head, GIIS India along with the school principal Mr. Ganesh Sharma. The principals, teachers, and students of the participating campuses were also present to witness the creativity and imagination unfold.
In order to give a meaningful expansion to the imaginative skills of our young minds, various other activities were conducted for the students of grades 6 to 12 of the Noida Campus.
Students of grades 9th and 10th put up an amazing display of their creativity and IT skills through the documentary videos on the topic “Social and Economic Development in India since its Independence”. In order to add charm to the auspicious occasion of GSE, the budding musicians of Noida Campus put forth their vocal and instrumental presentations that were appreciated by all. Story Narration was one such platform given to the students of Grade 11th and 12th, wherein they gave shape to their passion for their motherland in the form of creative stories.
A few glimpses of the work done by the students during the competition were beautifully showcased and were applauded by all. The GSE competition was judged by Ms. Navina Thakur, Bachelor in Fine Arts from Bengal School of Art and Craft, and Ms. Rakhi Garg, an expert in Information Technology. The student of Noida Campus bagged the first position with 2nd position was shared in common by two students from GIIS Whitefield campus. The 3rd position was shared by two students from GIIS Hadapsar and Noida respectively.
To sum it up, Independence day at GIIS Noida was celebrated with the same sense of excitement and patriotism that didn’t get dampened due to the pandemic-induced lockdown.
