Students of Grade 6-12 learn the art of writing and expressing through words during literary week celebrations

‘To learn a language is to have one more window from which to look at the world’.

To sensitize the students about the importance of the English language and to help them enhance their communication and creative skills, ‘Literary Week’ was organized for the students of grades 6-12 of Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida.

Several enriching and enjoyable activities were planned for the students in which they all participated wholeheartedly. On the first day, students were engaged in ‘Acrostic Poem Writing’ wherein they showcased their creative and poetic skills and came out with a few wonderful poems based on different themes.

The second day of the celebrations saw an overwhelming participation of the students in an activity called ‘I am a critical thinker’. Throughout the activity, they got a chance to express their thoughts and views about various events that were held in their school. Last but not the least, they enthusiastically participated in the activity ‘My Literary Masterpiece’ which gave them a platform to come up with anything that they created on their own in the English language, be it a poem, a short story, article, etc.

On the culmination day, a special assembly was organized virtually that was attended by all the students along with their parents and teachers. Students of grade 6 and 7, Shivika and Kananpreet Kaur confidently presented the assembly as anchors. The program commenced with a prayer followed by positive thought and word of the day, in which the history and importance of the English language was beautifully showcased through a PowerPoint presentation. Many interesting facts about the language were also shared with the audience.

A video containing glimpses of the students while participating in the activities conducted throughout the week was played followed by the display of the exemplary work done by the students. A short quiz was conducted to test the knowledge of the audience about the facts shared in the assembly. The most important and interesting part of the assembly was the presence of two of our alumni students, Ronit and Shivansh, who joined the event as special guests and shared their experiences and thoughts about their learning journey at GIIS. They also gave some tips to the students about ways to be successful in life, aside from briefly sharing instances of their own experiences. They had a healthy and enriching interaction with the students and motivated them to do good in life. It was indeed a pleasure to have them.

The assembly culminated with the vote of thanks given by the senior academic coordinator - Ms. Madhuri Kaw. She expressed her gratitude to all those who were present during the program and also expressed her pleasure in the success of Ronit and Shivansh and thanked them for joining this special assembly. She blessed them and wished them for their bright future. Ms. Madhuri was overwhelmed by seeing the students performing with such self-composure and appreciated the teachers for tapping their students’ hidden talent. She complimented the language department for the success of the Literary Week as she was confident that these activities will surely hone the listening and verbal skills, decision making, creative and abstract thinking of the students.
