Students learned about the remedial properties of green medicines

I-care activity on “Green Medicine Day” was organized for Grade 2 students of GIIS Noida where the students got a chance to observe the Green Medicine Day and pay tribute to the Late Kasturba Gandhi, wife of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

During the observance, students were sensitized about the value of herbal plants and its uses. They were explained about the healing properties and benefits of herbs like tulsi (holy basil), ginger, coriander, cinnamon, cardamom, and many other medicinal plants, which have magical medicinal properties. Students understood how these spices of plants can cure multiple illnesses at home. The children were also told about the home remedies they can follow in the pandemic, and how they can utilize herbal plants for boosting their immunity.

A herbarium activity was also organized for the students to engage them in the gathering of a few herbal leaves, pressing them, and writing some lines on the leaves collected by them. They were also educated on the importance of making herbarium to preserve plants species.

The sole objective of conducting such activities for the students is to make them aware of how green medicines can be used for curing some common illnesses like cold, flu, etc. at home.

The activity gave students first-hand experience which was helpful in extending their mental horizons and broadening their hearts. The activity deepened the sense of nationalism, sense of duty, besides inculcating the value and love towards nature and plants, and also made the students aware of their responsibility towards the environment.
