We all know that the food we consume on a daily basis has the power to make or break our immune system. The healthier we eat, the better it is for our overall health. That is why it is said and believed that a balanced diet combined with thirty minutes of physical exercise every day can help individuals build upon their physical quotient while combating their chances of catching a common illness that may be airborne or humanly transferred.
We all understand that healthy eating is the need of the hour, but there is still a lack of knowledge around it. And in order to ease the tough choice between the right meal, preferences, quantity, and quality, a session on “Building the Immunity Quotient” was conducted by Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida. The session was taken by Dr. Richa Srivastava - Dietician and Nutritionist who focussed on the vital components that make a diet healthy and fulfill the dietary intake in terms of essential nutrients for the students.
Ms. Richa Srivastava is a Consultant Dietician & Nutritionist based in Delhi, NCR with 17 years of diverse and rich experience of working with hospitals, private clinics, research, and product settings. During her session, Dr. Srivastava focussed on various aspects that help in building the immunity levels along with foods that support the former in achieving the same. She touch-based the three levels of immunity every individual possesses to fight and recover from the disease or illness on a daily basis. She further emphasized on the importance of nutrients, genetics, and gut microbes in determining the immune system’s elasticity against diseases.
She also enlightened the audience by explaining every minute component of a healthy/rich diet and ways one can adopt to enrich their body by balancing it out through a nutrient-rich diet, drinking lots of water, and indulging in some form of workout for physical fitness. Lastly, she answered all the queries during the Q&A session posed by the parents with great patience, and before concluding the session, she emphasized the importance of staying healthy and safe at home in the current scenario.
