‘By voting we add our voice to the chorus that forms opinions and basis for actions.’ -Jens Stoltenberg

Student Council is an organization conducted by students and supervised by adults. The purpose of the student council is to give students an opportunity to develop leadership qualities by organizing and carrying out school activities/service projects. ?In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare, the student council is the voice of the student body. They help share student ideas, interests and concerns with the school wide community.

Student Council Elections were held at GIIS, Noida on 19th July 2022. The process started with the students from grade 9th to 12th filing their nomination for various positions on 15th July 2022. The students first began campaigning for their respective posts on the same day. The contenders for the various coveted positions introduced themselves and read out their manifestos in an assembly conducted for the students of grades 6th to 8th, and for the grade 9th to 12th students, they tried to prove that they are their candidature for the various positions by participating in a Group Discussion on the following two topics:

  • If women can take to driving and office why can't men do away with chauvinism and indulge in babysitting and adapt culinary skill

  • Brain drain making India loose it's cream.... slowly and gradually patriotism is losing its fervour.

The above two topics were given two days before. Judges:? Ms. Anjali Sehgal (HOD, English Department and Ms. Madhuri Kaw - Senior Academic coordinator) decided upon the topic which was If women can take to driving and office why can't men do away with chauvinism and indulge in babysitting and adapt culinary skill and all nominated students expressed their views during the group discussion.

The final stage of the process was the casting of votes by the students. All the students from grade 6th to 12th casted their vote on 19th July. They were given ballot paper with the names of all the contestants printed on it. They selected the names of?the candidate of their choice in different categories which were Head girl and boy, Vice head girl and boy, Sports captain, cultural captain, discipline captain, community captain, House captains, vice house captains etc.

These elections provided an opportunity to the students to witness and exercise their fundamental right to vote. The entire polling process was in all respects a democratic and anonymous process.
