Promoting Safety and Hygiene Practices: A recap of GIIS Noida’s Safety and Hygiene Week

Schools play a vital role in educating students about the importance of maintaining a clean and safe environment. Safety and hygiene week is one such initiative that GIIS Noida takes to teach students about hygiene and safety practices. Recently, a safety and hygiene week was organized in the campus for grade 1 and 2. Various activities were conducted to promote healthy habits and cleanliness among the students.

On day one, students of Grade 1 were shown an audio-visual presentation on the importance of maintaining a clean and safe environment. Audio-visual aids are a great tool for teaching and learning processes as they improve critical and analytical thinking among students. The presentation sensitized students about the significance of healthy habits and cleanliness, which are important to maintain a safe and healthy environment. Grade 2 students on the other hand learnt about the seven steps of handwashing, which is an essential practice to keep oneself clean and germ-free. They were encouraged to practice the same during short and long breaks, which helped them in understanding the importance of hand hygiene.

The second day of the week focused on the importance of handwashing for Grade 1 students. They participated in a handwashing challenge to encourage them to wash their hands frequently. Additionally, Grade 2 students engaged in a poster-making activity, where they created posters promoting hygiene and safety. These posters were displayed around the school to create awareness about the significance of hygiene and safety practices.

On day three, grade 1 and 2 students participated in a healthy food speak-up activity. Students brought healthy food or salad in their lunch boxes, and spoke about the benefits of keeping a healthy body and maintaining a good lifestyle. This activity enhanced their orator skills and also taught them the importance of eating healthy food.

The final day of the safety and hygiene week was concluded by conducting a soap pepper experiment for the students. The activity aimed to teach students how soap works to make germs go away. Pepper, which acts as germs, does not dissolve or mix into water as it is hydrophobic. Adding soap breaks down the surface tension, and as the water molecules spread out away from the soap, they bring the pepper with them. Through this activity, students learned to keep themselves germ-free by maintaining proper hygiene.

The safety and hygiene week organized by the school was successful in teaching students the significance of maintaining a clean and safe environment. Through these activities, students also learned about healthy habits, the importance of hand hygiene, and the benefits of consuming healthy food. Such initiatives are essential in creating awareness among students about hygiene and safety practices that are important to lead a healthy life.
