First Day of the academic year at Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida is extremely important for both students and teachers. It’s one of those days that play a crucial role in setting the tone of the classroom for the entire year. Since every teacher wants to have a smooth running classroom and interactive students throughout the year, conducting various ice breaking activities with students really helps them in making the new set up comfortable for the chirpy and ever enthusiastic kids. Teachers from grades 2-5 conducted individual activities with individual students to make their first day at school in April 2019, interesting and memorable. Let’s have a look at the activities conducted grade wise - Grade 2 - The day began with each child introducing themselves amongst everyone. Later another activity was conducted (I AM IN GRADE 2) in which students wrote their wish, what they wonder and want to be on a small piece of paper. Later in day, a story telling session was carried out in which students shared their favourite stories with their peer group. Grade 3 - Apart from self-introduction session and storytelling activity , students of grade 3 were engaged in a paper balloon making activity in which they had to write their details ( like name, d.o.b, parents names, etc.) on it. Grade 4 - Grade 4 students were engaged in pen stand activity i.e. each child was given different coloured cut outs which were to be used for making a pen stand which they took back home as a takeaway of the first day of the new academic session in school. Also, students were involved in another activity where they had to write their details on a cloud out. Grade 5 - A fun filled colouring and expressive Bingo activity was conducted for Grade 5 students where they enjoyed collecting information from each other by asking few questions among them. They also decorated their clouds with 3D effect. The kites and hot air balloons symbolizing their imaginations adorned with sparkling hues of desires enlivened the activity. These activities served as an interesting way to break ice and to develop a foundation of a healthy teaching and learning process. Students got an opportunity to reflect and will always cherish the moments of their first day of the new session at school. |
